General Summary
Under the general supervision of the Library Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with the activities and operations of the Library. Works 18 hours per week, some evenings and Saturdays required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree or some college preferred. A Minimum of one year experience working in a public or educational library is preferred. Some Spanish preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Opens and/or closes the Library on some scheduled days.
  • Provides reference service, using both print and non-print resources.
  • Assists customers with computer use and printing services.
  • Provides circulation services-checking in, and checking out, managing customers' accounts, and placing holds.
  • Prepares and repairs materials for circulation.
  • Assists with keeping materials on shelves neat and orderly
  • Trains volunteers to read shelves and shelve materials.
  • Provides instruction for community classes and education offered at the Library.
  • Prepares statistics for Library Manager's reports.
  • Assists in creating promotional materials for library programs and services.
  • Helps keep library clean and organized.
  • Recommends titles for purchase.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Skill in organizing and maintaining library filing systems
  • Ability to organize and direct volunteers
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System
  • Basic computer skills-PC and Microsoft Office preferred
  • Knowledge of public library services and operations and of library collections
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Work includes prolonged sitting, must be able to lift and move at least 40 pounds, must be able to perform carrying, reaching, stooping, pulling, and pushing activities, and must have clear speech, vision, and hearing acuity.
