Job description

Reports to: Director of Digital Presence and Executive Director
Classification: Hourly
Part-time (10-15 hours per week, must have a flexible schedule, includes occasional weekend work, occasional evening work).
The Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC) La Voz Community Journalist requires excellent writing and storytelling skills. The candidate should be familiar with working on the Mac (primarily) and PC platforms and should know basic troubleshooting on each platform. The candidate must also be proficient in using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and WordPress CMS. This position will be in charge of marketing La Voz and all PRCC programs, gathering articles for La Voz, writing articles, conducting interviews, laying out the newspaper, meeting printing deadlines, posting La Voz online, managing La Voz distribution, documenting events with photos and videos, and maintaining communication with La Voz ad buyers and funders.
This position requires compliance with all the Puerto Rican Cultural Center's written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, all policies and procedures, and Regulatory Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. In addition, three 10-minute exercises using the aforementioned tools will be administered during the interview. Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Journalism
  • Work/School experience in the social/digital media field.
  • Knowledgeable in Graphic Design, WordPress, web design, or related fields.
  • Knowledgeable in computer troubleshooting (principally on a Mac platform)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills in Spanish and English.
  • Familiarity with web design and content management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively with a diverse set of team members, and learn to perform under tight deadlines.

  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
OSHA Category 3 - Does not involve regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure are not a requirement for employment.
