Position Purpose
The Community Coach is responsible for providing leadership, instruction, supervision, and mentorship to student-athletes while supporting the mission, values, and Christian philosophy of Providence Christian Academy. The Community Coach develops student-athletes through quality coaching, skill development, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and character formation.
The Community Coach works collaboratively with the Athletic Director, other coaches, faculty, staff, parents, and student-athletes to create a positive, safe, competitive, and Christ-centered athletic environment. The coach is expected to serve as a positive role model and to consistently demonstrate the values and standards of Providence Christian Academy.
- Plan and conduct organized practices that appropriately develop student-athletes' skills, knowledge, fitness, and understanding of the sport.
- Teach and demonstrate fundamental skills, techniques, strategies, rules, and expectations of the assigned sport.
- Develop practice plans that are purposeful, organized, age-appropriate, and aligned with team and program goals.
- Evaluate student-athlete performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
- Prepare student-athletes for games, competitions, tournaments, and other athletic events.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, commitment, accountability, and perseverance.
- Ensure that equipment and facilities are used appropriately and maintained in a safe condition.
- Work with the Athletic Director to establish team goals and expectations.
- Support the overall athletic program and cooperate with other coaches and athletic personnel.
- Model Christian character, integrity, humility, respect, self-control, and servant leadership.
- Integrate Christian principles and biblical character development into the coaching environment.
- Encourage student-athletes to demonstrate Christ-like behavior on and off the field or court.
- Promote sportsmanship, respect for opponents, officials, teammates, coaches, and spectators.
- Encourage student-athletes to understand that athletic participation is an opportunity to develop character, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
- Provide appropriate opportunities for prayer, Scripture, devotionals, and spiritual encouragement as directed by the athletic program.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all student-athletes.
- Provide active and attentive supervision of student-athletes during practices, games, competitions, team meetings, and assigned athletic activities.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive athletic environment.
- Follow all school, athletic department, facility, and emergency procedures.
- Ensure student-athletes follow appropriate safety rules and athletic expectations.
- Respond appropriately to injuries, emergencies, and safety concerns.
- Report injuries, accidents, behavioral concerns, or other incidents promptly to the Athletic Director and appropriate school personnel.
- Follow all concussion, injury-management, and return-to-play procedures established by the school and applicable athletic organizations.
- Never leave student-athletes unsupervised during assigned team activities.
- Establish and communicate clear expectations for attendance, punctuality, effort, behavior, academic responsibility, and sportsmanship.
- Maintain accurate records of team attendance and participation as required.
- Assist with team rosters, schedules, equipment, uniforms, and other program responsibilities.
- Ensure student-athletes are prepared and properly equipped for practices and competitions.
- Maintain an organized and professional team environment.
- Assist with game-day responsibilities, including preparation, supervision, equipment, and post-game procedures.
- Ensure facilities are left clean, organized, and secure following practices and competitions.
- Follow all athletic department policies and procedures.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with student-athletes, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, officials, and opposing teams.
- Communicate team schedules, expectations, changes, and other appropriate information to student-athletes and parents.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student-athletes and their families.
- Address parent questions and concerns professionally and follow the established chain of command.
- Refer significant concerns regarding academics, behavior, injuries, or student welfare to the appropriate school personnel.
- Maintain positive relationships with families and the broader Providence community.
- Represent Providence Christian Academy professionally at all athletic events and activities.
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and other coaches to support the overall athletic program.
- Attend required coaching meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Stay informed regarding current coaching practices, safety procedures, rules, and regulations related to the assigned sport.
- Follow all Providence Christian Academy policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook and Athletic Department Handbook.
- Complete all required background checks, certifications, training, and compliance requirements.
- Support the academic responsibilities of student-athletes by encouraging appropriate academic habits and accountability.
- Participate in school and athletic events as assigned.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related coaching and athletic duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
- Assist with athletic camps, clinics, tournaments, special events, and other activities as needed.
- Support other athletic programs and coaches when appropriate.
- Perform duties necessary to support the overall mission and operation of Providence Christian Academy.

Travel Requirements
- Travel to athletic facilities, competitions, tournaments, and other school-sponsored athletic events as required.
- May be required to travel with student-athletes to away games and competitions.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required for tournaments or athletic events.

Qualifications
Certification / Licensure- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or required as determined by the school and applicable athletic organization.
- Completion of all required background screening and school-required training.
- Completion of any required athletic association coaching certifications or training.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation, if required for assigned duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College degree in Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.
- Additional coaching education, training, or certification preferred.
- Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred.
- Previous experience working with middle or high school student-athletes preferred.
- Competitive playing experience in the assigned sport may be considered.
- Experience working in a Christian school, church, or faith-based athletic program strongly preferred.
