Job description

The Voices of Hope Community Chorus embraces the joy of music and supportive power of community for those who have been affected by breast cancer.

We are a welcoming, mixed voice, non-audition chorus that is welcome to all, including breast cancer survivors. Our members thrive on our unique sense of community. We celebrate breast cancer survivorship and the power of song. From pop and rock to the Great American Songbook, we cover a broad range of musical styles. Our chorus has more than 60 singers, including men and women.

Since its genesis about 20 years ago, Voices of Hope Community Chorus has performed two concert weekends each year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall, in various venues across Chicagoland. The chorus gathers in rehearsal in preparation for each concert for about 11 weeks prior to each.

While our primary focus is on creating a supportive community within the chorus and the larger breast cancer survivor community, we work toward our secondary goals of building our audience base, welcoming new members and finding new ways to move our mission forward. We strive to form meaningful bonds within the clinical and arts communities and throughout the city and suburban areas where our members and audience reside.

To date our board of directors has been comprised exclusively of chorus members but we look forward to welcoming others who can help us advance our goals through their unique perspectives. We know that those who have some clinical perspective in addressing breast cancer or who have experience with other organizations in the arts bring a unique insight, but value the guidance of others who might represent the larger potential audience community as well. Finance, marketing, fundraising, community outreach backgrounds are among the many talents we welcome in new board members.

Board meetings are held monthly, by zoom, throughout the year with an annual meeting for all chorus members in January. We look forward to sharing our gift music with our board members at our concerts and welcome them to become involved in the many social and community outreach events we have each year.
