What is a community acupuncture?

A Community Acupuncture job involves providing acupuncture treatments in a group setting at an affordable rate. Practitioners treat multiple patients in a shared space, using distal needling techniques to allow for effective treatment without requiring private rooms. This model increases accessibility while fostering a sense of community and collective healing. Acupuncturists in this role focus on patient care, education, and creating a welcoming environment. It’s a great option for practitioners who value affordability, inclusivity, and holistic wellness.

What is a typical day like for a community acupuncturist working in a group clinic setting?

A typical day for a Community Acupuncturist involves conducting brief patient consultations, providing acupuncture treatments in an open, multi-patient room, and maintaining accurate treatment records. You may treat several patients simultaneously, creating an efficient flow while ensuring each individual receives personalized care. Collaboration with other practitioners and support staff is common to maintain a comfortable and supportive environment. The work is rewarding but requires adaptability, good time management, and a commitment to upholding patient safety and confidentiality in a group setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the community acupuncture position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Community Acupuncture, you need a solid understanding of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture techniques, and patient assessment, usually demonstrated by a master's degree in acupuncture and a state license or certification. Familiarity with charting software, clean-needle technique, and compliance with safety protocols is expected. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build rapport in a group setting are highly valuable. These skills are essential to provide safe, effective treatments and foster a welcoming, community-oriented clinic environment.

How does community acupuncture work?

Community acupuncture is a model where practitioners provide affordable acupuncture treatments in a shared, group setting, often with patients seated in recliners or chairs. Treatments are typically brief and focus on common conditions, with practitioners using standardized protocols and maintaining patient privacy. This approach allows for efficient care delivery and increased access for a broader patient base.

Job description

About the Position

Family Nurse Practitioner needed for a brand-new, modern clinic facility on the Oregon coast. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly collaborative provider team and dedicated support staff focused on expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care in an underserved rural community.

Providers here benefit from a smaller clinic setting that fosters a strong sense of teamwork and a true “family” atmosphere. You’ll have the time and continuity to build meaningful relationships with patients while addressing their full spectrum of health needs. In addition to clinic responsibilities, this role includes providing care at a clinic-operated school-based health center located at a nearby high school, offering a chance to make a direct impact on adolescent health in the community.

The facility itself is newly developed, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with modern resources to support efficient, high-quality care delivery.

  • Average patient volume: ~15 per day
  • Call schedule: Shared among 4 providers; 1 week every 4 weeks (Tuesday evening to Tuesday morning)
    • Call volume is light, averaging 0–3 calls per week

Support Staff Includes:
RN Care Coordinators, dedicated Medical Assistants (including one assigned per provider), Clinic Manager, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacist, Referral Coordinator, Panel Coordinator, Health & Wellness Navigator, Outreach & Enrollment Coordinator, LPC/LCSW, Front Desk Patient Care Coordinators, and transportation support services.

This opportunity is based in a small coastal village along Oregon’s North Coast, overlooking a scenic bay known for its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. The clinic sits in a tight-knit community where providers are truly valued and can see the impact of their work firsthand.

The town itself offers a quiet, laid-back lifestyle with stunning waterfront views, a working harbor, and easy access to nearby coastal communities. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy short commutes, strong community connections, and a slower pace of life.

The broader region is known for:

  • Expansive beaches, bays, and rivers
  • Outdoor recreation including hiking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, and wildlife watching
  • A thriving local food scene featuring fresh seafood and farm-to-table options
  • Proximity to larger destinations like Portland and Astoria for weekend trips

Residents are drawn to the area for its natural beauty, excellent schools, and a lifestyle that prioritizes wellness, balance, and connection to nature.

Time Off:

  • 20 days PTO annually

CME:

  • 40 hours / $2,000 annually
