Description

Vistra is seeking a Strategic Communications Outreach Specialist to lead the development and execution of integrated communication strategies and marketing efforts to promote agency initiatives and expand the global readership of the agency's magazine. This position blends high-level strategic planning with hands-on content creation, digital marketing, and stakeholder engagement.  This is an on-site position that will require attendance in an office in McLean, VA, or Washington, DC. 


Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive outreach strategies and promotional campaigns 
  • Manage multiple, simultaneous projects tailored to diverse audiences across various media outlets, ensuring messaging is effectively altered for each demographic
  • Lead all marketing efforts to increase magazine subscriptions and digital readership, manage quarterly promotions, provide branding support, and coordinate with authors for feature story promotion.
  • Generate high-quality content, including writing, editing, and designing graphics for social media, web pages, and electronic newsletters, ensuring the magazine and agency maintain a cohesive, professional online presence
  • Conduct in-depth market research and reader surveys to refine outreach strategies, measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of all campaigns and social media efforts using advanced analytics to drive data-informed decisions
  • Provide comprehensive staffing and marketing support for tradeshows, conferences, and internal/external events, to include developing event-specific materials and innovative strategies to engage attendees and increase subscriptions
  • Synthesize complex highway, surface transportation, or policy information into compelling narratives for both the general public and technical stakeholders
  • Check references, facts, and ensure copyright compliance of written work products
  • Ensure that staff are updating the submission and project tracking system to enable customers visibility into the status of their projects
  • Provide final editing for presentations, video and online tour scripts, social media posts, and other communications collateral

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field; master's degree preferred
  • 6-10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, and public affairs
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing social media campaigns that substantially increase subscriptions or readership
  • Transportation experience, especially in highway and surface transportation, is preferred.
  • Public Trust is required; Security Clearance is preferred.
