Description
Case Western Reserve University, Department of Physiology & Biophysics is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a postdoctoral scholar position. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewing for additional years. The successful candidate will work in the laboratory of Professor Witold Surewicz on a research project exploring the tole of liquid-liquid phase separation in neurodegenerative diseases. Some of our recent papers in this area include: Boyko et al., PNAS 117, 31882-31890 (2020), Babinchak et al., Nature Commun 11:5574 (2020), Boyko and Surewicz, Trends Cell Biol 32, 611-623 (2022), Haider et al., Biophys J 123, 361-373 (2024), Monnaka et al., Commun Chem 9:126 (2026).
Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Design and perform experiments related to the research project
  2. Interpret experimental data
  3. Participate in preparation of manuscripts for publication

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biophysics or related areas.
  • 0-2 years of postdoctoral experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary
  • Prior experience in liquid-liquid phase separation, protein aggregation and/or protein-protein interactions is highly desirable.

In compliance with the City of Cleveland's Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $63,480. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
