JOB TITLE: Lineman Journeyman

Headquartered in both Kansas City and Topeka, Evergy employs about 4,900 people who are dedicated to empowering a better future. ย We are currently seeking qualified candidates for Journeyman-Linemen in Wichita, Kansas.

JOURNEYMAN LINEMEN- "Journeyman Linemen shall be skilled workers having three (3) or more years experience in this trade or having been previously classed by the Company as First Class Linemen, who possess the required knowledge, skills, physical abilities, and competencies to perform any work he or she may be called upon to do on the Company's transmission and distribution lines. ย Experience with other companies shall be considered in computing his/her time at the trade. ย 

ย ย ย ย Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs.
ย ย ย ย Place insulating materials over conductors and joints.
ย ย ย ย Install electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.
ย ย ย ย Maintain and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.
ย ย ย ย Identify defective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays or wiring, using wiring diagrams and electrical testing instruments.
ย ย ย ย Inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems, using reading and testing instruments.
ย ย ย ย String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, trenches, pylons and buildings, setting lines in place and using wenches to adjust tension.
ย ย ย ย Replace or straighten damaged poles.
ย ย ย ย Test voltage to ensure correct connections are made.
ย ย ย ย Install watt-hour meters and connect service drops between power lines and consumers' facilities.
ย ย ย ย Lay underground cable directly in trenches or string the cable through conduit running through the trenches.
ย ย ย ย Analyze sites for the purpose of determining the safest and most efficient method to complete the task.
