Position Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for developing, designing, and improving products, equipment, tooling, or systems to support company operations and customer requirements. This role works closely with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and production teams to ensure designs are functional, cost-effective, safe, and manufacturable.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and revise engineering drawings, models, and specifications using CAD software.
  • Develop product and equipment designs based on customer requirements, operational needs, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are practical and efficient for fabrication and assembly.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, cost reduction, and safety.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications, blueprints, and technical requirements.
  • Conduct design calculations, tolerance analysis, and material selection.
  • Assist with prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot design-related production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, revision control, and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors regarding materials, components, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical support to cross-functional teams including overnight travel as necessary to support testing and analysis of prototype designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of engineering or product design experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and engineering principles.
  • Hands on capability in manufacturing facility or field environments
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication processes such as casting, machining, welding, bending sheet metal, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with PDM CAD management software a plus.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and engineering change processes.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements
