Job Description Summary
Character of Duties:
Assist with gathering field notes, interviews, photographs, video, and audio that document University of Guam (UOG) Island Conservation Lab (ICL), research, field operations, student training, conservation initiatives, and public engagement activities;
Draft captions for photographs, news stories, social-media posts, outreach material, event announcements, website content, newsletters, and other communication products that translate UOG Island Conservation Lab research and conservation activities for diverse audiences under supervision;
Assist with editing, proofreading, fact-checking, formatting, and preparing approved materials for publication;
Help translate field and research information into clear, engaging content for students, community members, partners, and other nontechnical audiences;
Support communications about native plants, forest restoration, threatened and endangered species, invasive species, ethnobotany, natural resource policies, and conservation education;
Assist with scheduling and posting approved website and social-media content and maintaining a content calendar;
Organize photographs, video, captions, releases, project files, and other digital assets;
Set up and staff outreach events, workshops, presentations, educational displays, and field-based media activities;
Assist with producing, printing, distributing, and inventorying outreach and educational materials;
Operate and maintain basic communications and field-documentation equipment;
Perform other duties as assigned;
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Two and a half years (2.5) of work experience OR 75 college credits OR a combination of work experience, college credits, and/or training;
A portfolio or representative work samples demonstrating relevant experience in media production, writing, graphic design, photography, videography, or digital communications is required;
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of experience supporting media, science communication, conservation education, or community outreach preferably in Guam, the CNMI, or another Pacific island community;
Experience in writing for media, photography, video, or social media is preferred;
Minimum Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to identify native plant species of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands;
Ability to hike through field sites and difficult terrain in all weather conditions;
Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate good verbal and written skills;
Ability to gather information and prepare clear, accurate content under supervision;
Basic ability to use photography, audio, video, word-processing, digital-publishing, and social-media tools;
Ability to effectively use Canva, Adobe Photoshop, and other graphic design software to create clear, accurate, and engaging visual materials for science communication, conservation outreach, and digital media;
Ability to interact respectfully with students, community members, researchers, and project partners;
Ability to organize digital files, maintain accurate captions and records, and meet deadlines;
Ability to work in a team, manage time efficiently, and prioritize work;
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed;

Work Eligibility:

Police and Court Clearance:
Pursuant to Public Law No. 28-24 and Executive Order No. 2005-34, applicants selected for a position are required to provide original police and court (Superior Court of Guam) clearances of no more than three (3) months old prior to commencement of employment. Off-island applicants must obtain clearances from their place of residence. Applicants are responsible for fees associated with obtaining the clearances.
Should an applicant be convicted of any crimes other than a minor traffic violation, all applicable information must be provided in the form of a police clearance report and court clearance report. Failure to admit any felony convictions may result in immediate disqualification or disciplinary action.
Section 25103, Chapter 25, Title 10 of the Guam Code Annotated requires college or university employees to undergo a physical examination, to include a test for tuberculosis (skin or x-ray), prior to employment and at least annually thereafter. A report of such examination must be conducted by a licensed physician within a state or territory of the United States and must be submitted upon request.
Upon selection of hire, you will be required to provide additional documents (if necessary) as condition of employment.
