Job description

Description

As a Sourcing & Contracts Manager you'll play a critical leadership role in how we source, evaluate, and manage the equipment, materials, and partnerships that support our Retail, Distribution, Support and Manufacturing environments.
In this role, you will lead cross-functional teams through the supplier lifecycle including identification, qualification, negotiation, selection, and ongoing management to ensure we partner with the right suppliers to meet our business needs. Responsibilities include:
  • growing stockholder value through the procurement and management of millions of dollars in capital and operating costs and revenue for various areas within Retail, Distribution, Manufacturing and Support.
  • continually improving our supplier base and product mix to maximize company profit while maintaining quality standards.
  • leading projects for business area contributions to strategic initiatives (commissioned by officers and other executives of the company) and other business area projects.
  • ensuring that our legal, financial and business risk is mitigated and Publix has the appropriate level of legal risk protection in the areas of price, indemnification, warranty, insurance coverage and other necessary business terms and conditions when selecting and managing suppliers.
  • tracking and understanding market shifts to position Publix strategically and proactively, responding to changing business conditions and the needs of our customers.

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month's extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in business, engineering, accounting or related analytical discipline or equivalent work experience
  • two years' experience in purchasing or equipment/supply management
  • certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM) or ability to obtain within three years
  • strong knowledge of retail maintenance
  • strong organizational skills
  • excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • ability to multi-task

  • knowledge of mathematics and statistical data analysis
  • listening and interpersonal skills

  • must have a willingness to work a variable schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends to meet business needs. Requires the ability to be on call 24 hours/7 days per week
  • ability to travel, including overnight stays and travel by air via commercial airline or the company airplane

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Business Administration or Master's degree in Business or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • three years purchasing or equipment/supply management experience
  • basic knowledge of SAP
  • food Safety Certification
  • knowledge of purchasing and Publix Purchasing Methodology (including Category Review Process, Business Review Process, etc.)
  • knowledge of domestic and international business practices, business law, legal and regulatory requirements, accounting, and finance
  • knowledge of manufacturing, basic design, construction, purchasing and asset management methods and techniques
  • knowledge of a wide variety of industries (grocery retail operations, services, industry equipment), commodity markets (wheat, corn, soy, sugar, fuel, steel, aluminum, copper, plastics, etc.), and products purchased such as Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), supplies, packaging, equipment, parts, refrigeration, vehicles, etc
  • knowledge of Publix Retail Operations and organizational structure (Retail and Support)
