Job description

This position is posted multi-level and will be filled based on the selected candidate's education, experience and skillset. 

The portfolio analyst II develops natural gas trading strategies around the company's natural gas supply and interstate pipeline capacity assets. The position has a direct impact on the achievement of corporate earnings goals by her/his involvement in pipeline contract and issue negotiations, natural gas and derivative products trading activity and development and implementation of complex deal structures. The portfolio analyst II is responsible for ensuring the delivery of the company's natural gas supply requirements in an economical and reliable manner, while trading around the company's unutilized assets on a daily, monthly and term basis through the physical and financial markets.

Effective oral and written communication and negotiation skills. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Some travel may be involved. Trade physical and financial natural gas by phone and electronic trading platforms and research, analyze and interpret natural gas market information, pipeline tariffs and gas supply contracts, in order to strategic develop trading activities and to determine the operational impacts of strategic utilization on MidAmerican Energy Company. (60%) Develop long-term natural gas supply contracting strategy that is aligned with MidAmerican Energy Company's transportation and storage assets. Negotiate contracts and report progress as required. (20%) Compile and prepare information for regulatory filings and reporting, including annual PGA reconciliation information and Incentive Gas Supply Procurement Plan filings. In addition, compile and prepare business practices for internal use. (5%) Assist with special projects, and provide technical input to assist in development of project planning, including developing appropriate financial models as necessary. (5%) Assist in the development of portfolio analyst I and trading coordinator through direct interaction on the job and periodic department training opportunities. (5%) Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%) Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. " Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the natural gas transmission and distribution system. "
