About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer in technology as part of Commercial and Corporate & Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT). This candidate will join our Commodities Technology team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a business-critical trading platform supporting global Commodities Sales & Trading. This is a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of technology, trading, pricing, and risk, building innovative solutions that directly influence decision-making across the front and middle office.

As a senior technical leader and recognized subject matter expert, you will drive architecture, engineering standards, and technology strategy across a portfolio of Commodities platforms. You will design and deliver highly scalable, resilient, and low-latency solutions supporting the end-to-end trading lifecycle-from trade capture and pricing through risk management, regulatory reporting, and downstream processing.

You will partner closely with traders, quantitative analysts, product managers, and engineering teams to solve complex business challenges while helping modernize the Commodities technology landscape. The platforms you influence are central to the firm's trading capabilities and support critical functions across Front Office, Risk, and Operations.

This is a high-visibility opportunity to join a growing technology organization supporting a Commodities business undergoing significant expansion and investment.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups

  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking

  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions

  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions

  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization

  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of Capital Market experience
  • 4+ years in FICC Trade Life Cycle: Deep domain knowledge of Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities, including trade capture, valuation models, and lifecycle event management
  • 4+ years High-Performance Stack: Proven mastery of Java (concurrency, JVM tuning) and/or Python (FastAPI, data science libraries)
  • 4+ years Distributed Systems: Extensive experience with gRPC, Service Mesh (Istio/Linkerd), and high-performance messaging protocols

Desired Qualifications:

  • Platform Pedigree: Prior experience building or significantly contributing to industry-leading platforms
  • Complex Derivatives Knowledge: Understanding of pricing and risk for complex derivatives (Swaps, Options, Exotics) and how they translate into trade event models
  • Agentic Development: Experience implementing GitHub CoPilot or similar AI-assisted engineering tools at scale to drive "Agentic Development" workflows.
  • Modern UI Patterns: Experience with Micro Front Ends to decouple the trader UI and allow for independent module deployment
  • Cloud Native: Familiarity with deploying mission-critical financial systems on hybrid cloud environments (Azure/GCP/AWS) with a focus on data residency and sovereignty

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$159,000.00 - $305,000.00
