Job description

General Summary The Maintenance Technician I works mainly outdoors at the Zoo and other exhibits, preparing beds, tilling, digging, watering, weeding, trimming, fertilizing and other general grounds maintenance activities. Requirements and Job Specifications License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license. Relevant Work Experience: Six (6) months or more of relevant experience in grounds maintenance involving manual labor.

Equivalent combination of education & experience will be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of grounds maintenance is required. Knowledge of landscaping tools and equipment and maintenance procedures is required.

Skill in the operation of hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions Ability to read and write the English language Ability to operate a BREC vehicle Ability to perform manual and skill labor in various weather conditions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Functions and Duties Essential Functions and Duties: Prepares beds Performs tilling, digging, watering, and weeding Loads and carries plants, soils, and fertilizers Mows and trims Assists with special events This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. Supplemental Information Full-time position; schedules vary, within the framework of 8 hours/5 days per week; Lunch break daily; Overtime as required.
