Location: Hybrid (Washington D.C.)
JOB SUMMARY & KEY PRIORITIES
If you are a digital marketer looking to channel your skills into a meaningful mission, this is your opportunity to build, grow, and make a tangible impact. As the Manager of Digital and Social Media at Active Minds, you will be the driving force behind translating our strategy into authentic, timely digital and social media content that reaches nearly half a million followers nationwide.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Digital & Social Media, you will manage our social media presence across all channels and platforms. ABOUT ACTIVE MINDS
Active Minds is the largest nonprofit in the United States mobilizing youth and young adults to transform mental health norms across society. For more than 20 years, we have equipped the next generation of peer mental health advocates through a variety of programs, including the Active Minds Chapter Network, A.S.K., and Send Silence Packing. Our advocacy, initiatives, and campaigns foster lasting change in how youth view and discuss mental health, encouraging them to use their voices to influence broader conversations and inform mental health supports within their communities. Together, we are building a diverse movement of champions committed to improving mental health for all. To learn more about Active Minds, visit activeminds.org.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media Strategy & Campaign Execution
  • Execute Strategy: Translate the organization's overarching digital strategy into daily, actionable plans across all social media and digital engagement channels.
  • Campaign Delivery: Run and optimize integrated digital campaigns (both paid and organic) to move youth and young adult audiences from awareness to active mental health advocacy.
  • Content Calendars & Publishing: Own the creation, maintenance, and day-to-day management of the digital content calendar, ensuring consistent, timely, and aligned publishing schedules.
  • Trend & Culture Tracking: Actively track emerging platforms, digital trends, and cultural moments impacting youth and young adults to ensure Active Minds remains culturally relevant and responsive.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with internal program, partnership, and development teams to build social plans that support organization-wide initiatives.

Content Creation & Digital Storytelling
  • Hands-on Creation: Draft, produce, and edit high-quality, audience informed content across channels inclusive of short-form video (Reels, TikToks), graphics, and interactive formats.
  • Brand Voice & Accessibility: Maintain an authentic, inclusive, and engaging tone that resonates with youth, while ensuring all content meets visual brand guidelines and accessibility standards (e.g., alt-text, captions).
  • Asset Collaboration: Work closely with the Creative and Communications teams to transform mental health messages into digestible, visually compelling digital stories.
Creator & Influencer Engagement
  • Relationship Management: Source, pitch, and manage day-to-day relationships with digital content creators and influencers who align with the Active Minds mission.
  • Co-Creation: Collaborate directly with creators to develop authentic co-branded content that expands reach and connects naturally with youth audiences.
  • Community Cultivation: Help build and sustain a diverse, active community of digital ambassadors and advocates.
Social Listening, Performance Tracking & Optimization
  • Active Social Listening: Monitor comments, direct messages, and broader online conversations daily to track audience sentiment, build community trust, and identify fast-moving trends.
  • Analytics Tracking: Run regular performance reports using platform analytics to monitor key engagement metrics (reach, growth, video views, click-through rates).
  • Data-Driven Adjustments: Translate performance data into practical, actionable recommendations to continuously improve content quality and campaign ROI.
Project Management & Collaboration
  • Workflow Ownership: Coordinate day-to-day digital workflows and asset pipelines to ensure all social deliverables are executed smoothly and on time.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner seamlessly with Marketing, Programs, and Development teams to provide hands-on digital support for their respective goals.
  • Insights Sharing: Serve as an internal resource on youth digital habits, regularly sharing insights on platform updates and shifting algorithms with the broader communications team.
ABOUT YOU
  • Strategic & Action-Oriented: A strategic thinker who can align with a big-picture strategy and turn it into daily, high-impact execution.
  • Empathetic Storyteller: A creative communicator who appreciates that everyone has an important story to tell and is passionate about capturing youth voices.
  • Strong Writer: A talented writer and creator who can easily adopt and maintain Active Minds’ approachable, authentic brand voice.
  • Collaborative Partner: A supportive team member (and coordinator of external creators/partners) who values clear communication, collaboration, and mutual growth.
  • Digital Literacy: A strong grasp of digital storytelling, audience engagement, daily community management, and nonprofit communications.
  • Data-Informed Presenter: Comfortable sharing platform data, campaign strategy, and key digital learnings with the broader communications team and internal stakeholders.

You need to have:
