Job description

Position Summary

The DevTools Business Unit at Perforce is searching for a highly skilled engineer to join our technical sales team serving the North American East region. This senior position partners with account executives to prove the value of our products, serving as the technical liaison between prospective customers and internal product, marketing, and delivery teams. The role requires a unique combination of technical skill and business acumen, with direct exposure to developer productivity tools, enterprise infrastructure solutions, and cutting‑edge open‑source implementations.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with Account Executives across the full sales cycle, from technical discovery and demos through POC trials and proposal support, to prove solution value and close business.
  • Conduct deep discovery to understand customer architecture, workflows, and business objectives; map findings to targeted solutions that demonstrate clear ROI.
  • Design and deliver compelling technical presentations, workshops, and proof‑of‑concept engagements tailored to executive and engineering audiences.
  • Serve as the internal champion for the customer, collaborating across Product, Marketing, Support, and Professional Services to surface feedback, shape roadmap, and set project priorities.
  • Evaluate customer environments and provide architectural guidance on solution fit, implementation approach, risk tradeoffs, and compliance considerations.
  • Contribute to the broader technical community through conferences, webinars, blog posts, and open‑source engagement, including direct participation in relevant projects.
  • Support lead generation and pipeline development alongside territory managers, including trade show participation and introductory technical sessions.
Requirements
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent; 5+ years in a customer‑facing technical role (pre‑sales, solutions engineering, professional services delivery, or technical support leadership).
  • Hands‑on experience with Java and/or C/C++ enterprise development; comfort reasoning about performance, build toolchains, debugging complex systems, and build acceleration tools such as JRebel.
  • Strong Linux background with solid understanding of the enterprise Linux ecosystem, including upstream/downstream repo hierarchy, distro differences (RHEL/Rocky/Debian/SLES), and on‑prem vs. cloud vs. hybrid deployment patterns.
  • Demonstrable experience with open‑source software adoption and support, including active community participation via code, documentation, or presentations; familiarity with CNCF technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis, Vault) and middleware stacks (e.g., Tomcat, ActiveMQ, Apache Camel) is a strong plus.
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, etc.); understanding of cloud‑native architecture, resource deployment models, and hybrid/bare‑metal tradeoffs; experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Ansible, Terraform, Nexus/Artifactory).
  • Proficiency with containerization and virtualization at meaningful scale (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift; Vagrant, KVM/QEMU, Proxmox).
  • Familiarity with HPC, scientific computing, or performance engineering use cases, including advanced debugging tools such as TotalView and foundational libraries for machine learning and predictive analytics, is a meaningful differentiator.
  • A strong textbook understanding of both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra) and situational awareness of where each fits; practical experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to mixed audiences, with strong demo skills, confident written communication, and experience authoring technical proposals or RFP responses.
  • A genuine passion for helping developers succeed, with awareness of how AI‑assisted development workflows, advanced tooling, and productivity platforms translate into measurable team outcomes; self‑directed and adaptable, comfortable ramping quickly on new technologies and operating across time zones in a distributed team environment.
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, vision insurance
  • Retirement benefits
  • Life insurance
  • Wellness programs
  • Total time off
  • Other employee perks offered by Perforce

All employees are expected to demonstrate AI fluency appropriate to their role and level, including responsible use of AI tools, sound judgment, and adherence to company AI governance and security policy standards.

Base pay range: $165,000 – $175,750 USD, with eligibility for a Sales Engineering Commission Plan.
