Job description

AGV Specialist

The AGV Specialist will support the delivery, deployment, configuration, and commissioning of 61 AMRs across two automotive manufacturing processes: Front Kit and Rear Kit. The role includes work with peripheral systems such as inductive charging, CFMS fleet management systems, network infrastructure, and associated automation equipment at an automotive manufacturing plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

Engagement commences 1 July 2026, Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:00. The role is engaged on a monthly rolling basis, with continuation or termination decisions made on the last Monday of each month.

Responsibilities

1. Unboxing, Assessment & Quality Reporting

  • Lead and supervise the unboxing and unpacking of incoming AMRs, AGVs, and automation equipment in the laydown area in coordination with the Site & Installation Manager.
  • Conduct systematic physical assessments of each unit upon unboxing, inspecting for transit damage, missing components, and deviations from the expected delivery specification.
  • Execute a structured post-unboxing checklist covering mechanical integrity, hardware completeness, label and serial number verification, and initial power-up checks.
  • Perform basic functional testing on each unit prior to configuration to confirm the AMR is operational and free of transit-related faults.
  • Prepare a Field Quality Incident Report FQIR for any unit presenting damage, non-conformance, or failed checklist/test items.
  • Submit quality reports to the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders for review and disposition.
  • Maintain a unit-by-unit unboxing log recording condition at receipt, checklist outcomes, test results, and open quality actions.

2. AMR Deployment & Configuration

  • Oversee the configuration team executing AMR software deployment, parameter loading, and network onboarding for each unit following successful assessment.
  • Ensure configuration is applied consistently against the approved technical specification.
  • Review and sign off each unit prior to advancing to commissioning.
  • Maintain a deployment tracker covering unit-by-unit status across both Front Kit and Rear Kit processes.
  • Support accurate configuration control through as-deployed configuration logs and project documentation.

3. System Commissioning

  • Perform site-level commissioning of deployed AMRs, including initial power-up, self-test validation, and route verification.
  • Commission peripheral systems including inductive charging stations and CFMS integration in coordination with relevant vendors.
  • Execute and document functional tests for each AMR and associated peripheral at the point of commissioning.
  • Identify, log, and track commissioning defects through to resolution.
  • Escalate blocking issues to the Site & Installation Manager and project stakeholders.
  • Support commissioning activities involving automation vendors, robotic systems, and plant infrastructure.

4. Process Integration & Performance Verification

  • Validate AMR operation within each process, including pick/drop point alignment, handover interfaces with robotic cells, and traffic management behavior.
  • Conduct loaded and unloaded performance runs to verify cycle times, charging behavior, and system throughput against defined acceptance criteria.
  • Support multi-party testing in shared zones, including robotic cells and transfer points.
  • Coordinate timing and access with the Site & Installation Manager during testing and integration activities.
  • Verify safe and reliable AMR movement within an active industrial automation environment.

5. Installation Support

  • Provide technical input during infrastructure installation phases where AMR operational requirements affect layout, clearances, or interface specifications.
  • Perform loop checks and network connectivity verification for charging and CFMS infrastructure prior to AMR integration.
  • Support basic electrical and connectivity checks on peripheral systems.
  • Flag installation non-conformances that impact AMR deployment.
  • Document deviations for the project record and assist with resolution tracking.

6. Reporting & Documentation

  • Publish a daily night letter summarizing units commissioned, issues encountered, next-day plans, and escalation items.
  • Maintain and update commissioning records, test reports, FQIRs, and as-deployed configuration logs as part of the project documentation package.
  • Contribute to weekly site progress reporting to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, traceable, and aligned with project quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and commissioning AMR systems or AGV systems in industrial or automotive manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency with AMR software platforms, fleet management systems, CFMS, and unit-level configuration tools.
  • Experience performing structured unboxing assessments, post-transit inspections, and pre-commissioning functional testing.
  • Understanding of inductive charging systems, opportunity charging, and their integration with autonomous mobile robot fleets.
  • Ability to perform loop checks, network connectivity verification, and basic electrical checks on peripheral systems.
  • Familiarity with robotic cell interfaces, multi-system handover points, and shared-zone testing.
  • Ability to read and follow technical documentation, manuals, commissioning procedures, and deployment checklists.
  • Strong issue identification, defect logging, escalation, and technical reporting skills.
  • Experience working in an industrial plant, automotive manufacturing facility, warehouse automation environment, or robotics deployment site.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, site installation teams, vendors, commissioning personnel, and production support teams.

Required Equipment Provided for On-Site Personnel

  • Laptop, network cable, and USB cable.
  • Safety gear, including orange jacket, safety boots, LOTO equipment, hard hat, and safety glasses.
  • Transportation and accommodation to the on-site plant.
