What does a Commission Simulation Software Engineer do?

A Commission Simulation Software Engineer designs, develops, and maintains software tools that model and simulate the performance of commission systems, often in the context of sales or energy industries. They work to ensure that simulation software accurately reflects real-world commission structures and calculations, enabling organizations to predict outcomes, optimize processes, and validate system behavior before deployment. This role typically involves programming, collaborating with stakeholders to understand business logic, and testing simulation accuracy to support decision-making.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission Simulation Software Engineer?

To thrive as a Commission Simulation Software Engineer, you need a solid background in software development, simulation modeling, and systems engineering, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with simulation tools (like MATLAB/Simulink), programming languages (such as Python or C++), and experience with version control systems are typically required, and certifications in relevant software may be advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help you excel in collaborating with cross-functional teams. Mastery of these skills and tools ensures accurate simulations, efficient troubleshooting, and the successful commissioning of complex engineering systems.

How does a Commission Simulation Software Engineer typically collaborate with sales and finance teams during the development process?

A Commission Simulation Software Engineer often works closely with sales and finance teams to understand commission structures, business rules, and reporting requirements. Regular meetings or workshops are common to clarify needs, gather feedback, and validate simulation results. This cross-functional collaboration ensures the software accurately models real-world scenarios and integrates smoothly with existing systems. Effective communication and an ability to translate technical concepts into business terms are key to success in this role.

What is the difference between Commission Simulation Software Engineer vs Data Analyst in the same industry?

AspectCommission Simulation Software EngineerData Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science or related field, programming skillsBachelor's in Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
Work EnvironmentSoftware development teams, technical projectsData analysis teams, reporting environments
Industry UsageDevelops tools for commission calculations and simulationsAnalyzes data to inform business decisions

The Commission Simulation Software Engineer focuses on developing and maintaining software tools for commission calculations, requiring programming expertise. In contrast, a Data Analyst interprets data to support strategic decisions. Both roles often collaborate but serve different functions within the industry.

Job description

Auria is looking to hire a Software or Systems Engineer to support the FSDS program. Federal Spectrum Data System (FSDS) modernizes the NTIA's spectrum management functions by eliminating or drastically reducing the required manual intervention to execute necessary tasks. The new system will manage a large amount of spectrumโ€‘dependent data, analytic engineering analyses & tools, spectrum management processes and workflows, and AI enhancements of all of the above. The solution requires data integration across multiple diverse sources, several of which exist outside the scope of FSDS and therefore require novel solutions to ensure secure, efficient, and effective data exchange. This modernization effort will require advanced understanding of spectrum management, RF modeling, and some legacy spectrumโ€‘related systems, processes, and workflows. This will represent a large effort to overcome the problems the NTIA currently faces with disconnected and incomplete siloed tools and systems, by creating a massive spectrum management system that manages federal spectrum resources, demands, and needs in a world with increasingly advanced and complex systems operating in a similarly complex and congested spectral environment.

What you can expect to do:
  • Write C++, NodeJS, and Python code
  • Develop, improve, and debug advanced RF modelling and simulation algorithms
  • Communicate technical matters related to those RF models and simulations to the customer
  • Proficiently use or interact with DevSecOps tools like package managers, content registries, dev pipelines, web servers, etc.
What the team requires:
  • A degree in, or related to, the fields of electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, computer engineering, and/or software development
  • 3+ years of work or otherwise demonstrable experience in at least one of the fields listed above
  • Demonstrable understanding in one of: electromagnetics, radio Tx/Rx componentโ€‘specific modelling (including radars, GNSS, and SATCOM), and wireless communications fundamentals
  • Demonstrable command of C++
  • Demonstrable command of industryโ€‘standard C++ development practices, such as version control, unit/integration/automated testing, and peer programming and code review processes
What the team prefers:
  • Secret or higher Clearance
  • A Masterโ€™s or Doctorate in a related field (see Minimum Qualifications) is preferred
  • Demonstrable understanding in one of: spectrum resource management & optimization, signal processing, statistics, stochastics, and frequency domain analysis
  • Demonstrable command of Python, JS, or other similar programming languages
  • Demonstrable command of industryโ€‘standard CI/CD DevSecOps practices to include pipeline management, build toolchain setup, and CI/CD automation
Pay transparency:

The salary offered will be based on the selected candidateโ€™s qualifications - skills, education & experience - and the position level. $100,000 - $150,000

Application deadline:

July 27th 2026
