What is a commission retail?

A Commission Retail job is a sales position where employees earn a percentage of the sales they generate in addition to or instead of a base salary. The commission structure varies by employer and can be based on individual sales, team performance, or store revenue. This type of job rewards strong sales skills and customer service, as higher sales lead to higher earnings. Commission-based roles are common in industries like fashion, electronics, and automobiles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in commission retail, and why are they important?

To thrive in Commission Retail, you need strong sales skills, customer service expertise, and a solid understanding of the products you’re selling, often obtained through on-the-job training or previous retail experience. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and sometimes basic CRM tools is helpful. Exceptional communication, resilience, and the ability to build relationships will help you stand out in a competitive retail environment. These skills are crucial for meeting sales targets, earning commission-based income, and providing excellent customer experiences.

What are the typical work hours and scheduling expectations for commission retail?

Commission retail positions often involve a mix of standard retail hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, to align with peak shopping times. Schedules can vary based on store traffic, sales events, and seasonal demands, so flexibility is highly valued. Many commission-based roles may also require you to stay longer during busy periods to maximize earning opportunities, as your income depends on meeting or exceeding sales targets. Being available during high-traffic times can significantly impact your success and income potential in these roles.

A rare seat in Westchester's premier med spa. A treatment room of your own in an established, well-reviewed med spa in the Rivertowns, with a strong book already on the schedule, commission layered on top of your hourly, and gratuities. Full-Time or Part-Time.

About This Practice

VIO Med Spa Dobbs Ferry opened in June 2025 at Rivertowns Square as the first VIO Med Spa in Westchester County. It is a medical spa offering injectables, facial and skin rejuvenation treatments, laser and light therapy, and IV and wellness services. The center holds a 4.9 star guest rating, and guests name their providers by first name in their reviews, a quiet signal of how the room is run.

The location sits in a walkable retail district in the Hudson River villages, minutes from Hastings-on-Hudson, Ardsley, Irvington, and Tarrytown, and a short drive from Yonkers and the north Bronx. Ownership is engaged and hands-on, and the center operates under established medical protocols.

The Role

This is a licensed esthetician role focused on skin. You own the facial and skin-treatment side of the guest experience: the consultation, the treatment, the homecare plan, and the rebook. You work as a team with the GES and the center's other clinical providers to give guests the best possible experience and long-term skin plans.

This is an established seat on an operating team, available Full-Time or Part-Time.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver customized and corrective facials, HydraFacial treatments, chemical peels, extractions, and dermaplaning, in every case within your New York esthetician scope of practice and the center's written protocols.
  • Run real skin consultations: analyze the skin, set honest expectations, and build a treatment cadence and a medical-grade homecare plan the guest can actually follow.
  • Rebook guests before they leave, recommend memberships and homecare products when they genuinely fit the guest's goals, consultative and guest-first, always.
  • Contribute to the practice's social media with before-and-after and educational content on a regular cadence. This is a standing part of the role.
  • Refer accurately. When a guest's goal calls for injectables, energy-based treatment, or anything outside esthetician scope, hand off cleanly to the appropriate licensed provider.
  • Maintain treatment-room sanitation, infection control, product inventory, and clinical documentation to medical-practice standards.

How Success Is Measured

We track a handful of KPIs to know the room is running well. Chief among them:

  • Rebooking rate and return cadence: guests book with you again and come back on schedule.
  • Retail and membership attachment that grows alongside your service revenue.
  • Treatment-room utilization climbing toward 85%.

Requirements

Must-Haves

  • Active New York State esthetics license in good standing, issued by the NYS Department of State, Division of Licensing Services.
  • At least two to three years of post-licensure experience performing facials on paying clients, running a full treatment start to finish without supervision.
  • Working knowledge of skin physiology, common skin conditions, skincare ingredients, sound extraction and facial-massage technique, and consistent sanitation discipline.
  • Comfort with a pay structure that includes a commission component on top of your hourly base.
  • Willingness to appear in and contribute to social media content on a set cadence.
  • Reliable transportation to Dobbs Ferry, NY and availability that includes some Saturday coverage.
  • HydraFacial certification, plus certification in chemical peels and dermaplaning.

Strong Advantages, Not Required

  • Prior experience in a medical spa, dermatology practice, plastic surgery practice, or other clinically guided aesthetics setting.
  • Familiarity with medical-grade skincare lines such as SkinCeuticals, ZO Skin Health, Alastin, or SkinBetter.
  • A track record of rebooking, retail attachment, or membership conversion you can speak to specifically.
  • A professional Instagram or portfolio showing your work.

Benefits

Compensation

Your pay comes together from four sources: a strong hourly base, service commission, retail commission, and gratuities.

The base runs $22.00 to $30.00 per hour and is guaranteed on every scheduled hour, so a quiet shift never leaves you unpaid. Where you land in that range reflects your experience and production, and your rate moves up with tenure and how consistently your schedule is booked.

On top of the base, you earn commission on your service production, commission on retail product sales, and gratuities. We walk through the full structure on the first call: it is a complete package, not a single number.

Schedule and Work Model

This is an on-site W2 role at 45 Hamilton St in Dobbs Ferry. The center operates Monday through Saturday and is closed Sunday. Saturday coverage is part of the role. The seat is available Full-Time or Part-Time.

Benefits and Perks

  • W2 employment with an established, operating center.
  • Gratuities paid to providers on top of hourly and commission.
  • Clinically guided oversight and established written protocols.
