Commission Remote Solar Engineer information

What is a commission remote solar engineer?

Commission Remote Solar Engineers are professionals who specialize in commissioning, or verifying and optimizing, solar power systems remotely. Their primary role is to ensure that solar installations are operating correctly and efficiently, using remote monitoring tools and software. They review system performance data, troubleshoot issues, and may provide support for on-site technicians. This job requires strong knowledge of solar technology, electrical systems, and remote diagnostics. As the solar industry grows, remote commissioning helps streamline operations and reduce the need for on-site visits.

What are some typical challenges faced by commission remote solar engineers and how can they be addressed?

Commission Remote Solar Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting system issues without being physically present at the installation site, coordinating with on-site teams, and ensuring that all commissioning procedures comply with local regulations. Effective communication and strong problem-solving skills are essential, as engineers must rely on clear instructions and detailed remote diagnostics. Utilizing advanced monitoring tools, maintaining thorough documentation, and building strong relationships with installation crews can help overcome these challenges and ensure successful project commissioning.

What is the difference between Commission Remote Solar Engineer vs Remote Solar Technician?

Job description

Headquartered in Tennessee, USA, Shoals Technologies Group (NASDAQ: SHLS) is a global innovator in electrical balance-of-system solutions. Our disruptive technologies are designed to enhance cost efficiency, longevity, and reliability across solar PV, energy storage, data centres and eMobility projects worldwide. With over 100 GW of solar systems contracted, under construction, or in operation, Shoals is setting the benchmark for clean energy infrastructure.

Our success is built on delivering custom-engineered, plug-and-play solutions tailored to the unique needs of each project. With manufacturing facilities in Tennessee and Alabama, and dedicated teams in Spain and Australia, we support solar deployments across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East & Africa, and Asia-Pacific.

Shoals has proudly supported the Australian renewable energy sector for over seven years. As we continue to invest in the ANZ region, weโ€™re seeking a driven individual to help expand our footprint and accelerate growth in this critical market.

Summary:

Shoals Technologies Group is seeking a Sales Applications Engineer to support the deployment of our EBOS products across utility-scale and mining solar PV and energy storage projects in the Pacific region. This full-time hybrid role is based in Sydney, NSW, with flexibility for remote work. Youโ€™ll collaborate closely with our sales, product engineering, and integration teams to deliver tailored technical solutions that meet customer requirements and comply with local standards. Your day-to-day will involve providing hands-on technical support, guiding customers through solution design, and helping shape proposals that reflect Shoalsโ€™ commitment to innovation and reliability.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of Shoalsโ€™ current and future solutions for Solar PV and Energy Storage applications, including pre-terminated wiring, standard/custom wiring harnesses, electrical distribution enclosures, and other eBOS products.
  • Engage with customers, EPCs, developers, product managers, project managers, and engineers to understand project requirements, assess needs, and determine customer specifications.
  • Discuss customer applications, present Shoalsโ€™ technical solutions, explain value propositions and costing, and review drawings to recommend optimal configurations.
  • Support Sales in preparing quotes by developing bills of materials (BOMs) and system layouts, incorporating Shoals solutions, partner offerings, and identifying options for missing elements.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to existing and prospective customers.
  • Interface with Product Line Management to stay current on Shoals products, gather and relay Voice of Customer feedback, and support new product development.
  • Recommend improved deployment methods versus traditional approaches, demonstrating how changes can reduce installed costs.
  • Propose system and process improvements to streamline bid preparation and response timelines.
  • Support other New Markets product lines, including BESS solutions and Solar OEM, by evaluating and proposing solution options.
  • Ensure all solutions comply with AS/NZS electrical codes and standards.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in solar or energy storage applications engineering.
  • Familiarity with EBOS components, electrical distribution enclosures, AC and DC power systems engineering design.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience working with EPCs, developers, and O&M teams.
  • Knowledge of Australian energy market and regulatory environment.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design tools.
  • Understanding of solar module, inverter, and tracker integration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Why Join Shoals?

  • Be part of a global clean energy leader.
  • Work on high-impact projects across Australia and the Pacific.
  • Collaborate with a fast-growing team that values innovation, sustainability, and excellence.
  • Access to cutting-edge technology and engineering supportย
