Job description

Data Analyst II (Contract) - Drilling & Completions Analytics About the Role We are seeking a Data Analyst II to provide analytical support to the Drilling & Completions (D&C) organization within the Rockies region. This contract position is embedded within operations and focuses on transforming complex data into actionable insights that improve operational efficiency, well delivery performance, and capital effectiveness.
The ideal candidate is a strong analytical professional who can work independently, build meaningful dashboards and reporting solutions, automate data processes, and communicate findings effectively to both technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Extract, analyze, and interpret operational data to support business decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries across enterprise systems including OXYODS, OpenWells, and other operational databases.
  • Analyze drilling and completions performance, operational KPIs, timelines, and cost metrics.
  • Translate data into actionable recommendations for operations and leadership teams.
Dashboard Development & Visualization
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards.
  • Create clear and impactful visualizations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Troubleshoot reporting issues, manage data connections, and optimize dashboard performance.
  • Ensure reporting solutions align with organizational BI standards.
Process Automation & Optimization
  • Automate recurring reporting and data analysis processes.
  • Develop reusable SQL queries, templates, and workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting efficiency, and overall business processes.
  • Support development of automated data pipelines and reporting solutions.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner with D&C engineers, operations teams, and business stakeholders to understand reporting needs.
  • Provide timely support for ad hoc analyses and data requests.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, IT, and analytics teams to deliver solutions.
  • Maintain documentation for data sources, business logic, and reporting methodologies.
Data Quality & Governance
  • Perform ongoing data validation and quality control checks.
  • Monitor data consistency, accuracy, and freshness across source systems.
  • Identify and investigate data anomalies.
  • Support master data management for wells, pads, assets, and operational hierarchies.
Required Qualifications Experience
  • 3 years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, or similar analytical role.
  • 2 years of hands-on experience writing and optimizing complex SQL queries in production environments.
  • 2 years of experience building and maintaining Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards.
  • Experience supporting operations, engineering, or field-based business functions.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced SQL skills, including:
    • CTEs
    • Joins
    • Subqueries
    • Aggregations
    • Window functions
    • String manipulation
  • Experience with Power BI (preferred) or Spotfire.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling concepts.

  • Experience in upstream oil and gas, particularly Drilling & Completions.
  • Familiarity with OpenWells, Landmark, PPDM-based applications, or other well data management systems.
  • Understanding of oil and gas operational metrics, including:
