Job description

Mechanical Engineering Manager (Pressure Vessel) Overview We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for the design and development of pressure vessels, steam generators, and other complex mechanical systems. This role combines technical leadership with people management. You will oversee engineering projects from concept through design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing while ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. You will mentor engineers, support their professional development, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and practical engineering solutions. Location: Rockville, Maryland Work Pattern: 4 days per week in the office Travel: Approximately 10% Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (ET) Key Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers across multiple projects. Oversee the design, analysis, and evaluation of pressure vessels, steam generators, and related mechanical systems. Ensure engineering work follows company processes, industry standards, and best practices. Allocate engineering resources effectively and ensure projects are appropriately staffed. Resolve technical issues and provide guidance on engineering decisions. Support project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation activities. Drive continuous improvement of engineering tools, methods, and processes. Work closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure designs can be successfully built and tested. Review and approve technical documentation, design reviews, and engineering deliverables. Coach, mentor, and develop team members to support their professional growth. Maintain clear, professional communication with internal and external stakeholders. Perform additional duties as required. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline. Approximately 10 years of engineering experience. Experience designing and developing mechanical systems, components, or assemblies. Experience supporting manufacturing, testing, or production activities. Proficiency with CAD software and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems such as: Siemens NX SolidWorks Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER) Teamcenter Windchill Or similar platforms Previous experience leading engineering projects and technical teams. Preferred Qualifications 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including at least 4 years working with pressure vessels or steam generators. Experience taking products from initial concept through manufacturing and production. Knowledge of heat exchanger or tube bundle design. Experience performing thermal, structural, or mechanical analysis. Experience applying ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code requirements. Professional Engineer (PE) licence. Understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, and assembly. Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles. Background in failure analysis and root cause investigations. Experience within power generation, industrial equipment, or heavy engineering industries.
