Job description

Our client is a dynamic, expedited and hotshot transportation provider start-up launching across the greater Chicagoland area and Midwest U.S. Their mission is to redefine time-critical logistics by providing unparalleled reliability, white-glove service, and strict SLA compliance. The company seeks to capture the opportunity in the Chicagoland and Midwest U.S. to serve high-stakes sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, and specialized delivery. Rather than chasing transactional spot freight, they are investing in establishing predictable, asset-optimized routes driven by trusted customer relationships and reliable, consistent service

We're seeking an entrepreneurial Business Development Representative “hunter” to be a founding member of the company’s sales team. This field-based, independent contractor (1099) role will be a true "hunter" to build the company’s market presence from the ground up and build your own book of recurring business rather than relying on load boards. This role is ideal for a self-motivated professional with deep ties to supply chain leaders throughout Chicagoland and the broader Midwest. Reporting to the Company Principal, the primary focus will be proactively securing recurring transportation contracts, dedicated shipping lanes, and long-term agreements that build a predictable foundation for the company’s future fleet.

Our client offers:

  • Uncapped commission structure tailored to reward high-margin, recurring contract revenue.
  • A true ground-floor opportunity to heavily influence company culture, strategy, and future sales leadership pathways.
  • A nimble operational team dedicated to flawless execution, ensuring your hard-won clients receive premium service that protects your reputation.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven Logistics Sales Professional with a hunter mindset who thrives in a fast-paced, performance-driven, entrepreneurial culture. This field role offers both a competitive monthly retainer and high-yield commission compensation potential. If you are experienced in developing and managing an expansive multi-state sales pipeline independently, we look forward to speaking with you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • New Business Development: Drive aggressive outbound prospecting, cold calling, and strategic networking to establish and secure new accounts.
  • Solution Selling: Sell high-value logistics solutions, including expedited freight, hotshot transportation, medical logistics, and white-glove delivery, while ensuring strict alignment with strict customer Service-Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Vertical Integration: Actively target and close high-margin enterprise accounts across key sectors, including Midwest U.S. manufacturing, healthcare, and specialized industries such as medical courier services, pharmaceutical logistics, organ transport support, and chemical transportation.
  • Dedicated Route Development: Focus heavily on building and securing a long-term book of recurring contracts negotiating long-term transportation agreements and dedicated shipping lanes to reduce company reliance on daily spot-market or public load board freight.
  • Strategic Relationship Management: Leverage existing relationships with Shipping Managers, Transportation Managers, Logistics Directors, Supply Chain Managers, and Warehouse Managers to secure contract opportunities.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS:

  • Company President
  • Prospective and Existing Clients
  • Internal Company Team Members
  • External Partners and Suppliers

POSITION LOCATION:
This field-based role will identify and develop new business in Chicagoland and the greater Midwest U.S. Local, qualified Chicago-area candidates will be given preference and priority. Qualified candidates willing to self-relocate to the greater Chicago area will also be considered.

  • Experience: 5+ years of proven, successful experience in freight transportation sales, brokerages, or logistics business development. Experience with medical courier services, pharmaceutical logistics, organ transport support, or chemical transportation is highly preferred.
  • Industry Domain: Deep expertise in expedited freight, hotshot transportation, dedicated delivery, courier services, or specialized transport.
  • Regional Network & Relationships: An active network throughout Chicagoland, with established contacts across the Midwest U.S. in Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, and Southern Illinois. Existing connections with Shipping, Transportation, and Warehouse Managers, as well as Logistics and Purchasing Directors.
  • Contract Negotiation: Proven track record of moving clients away from spot-market bidding into stable, long-term transportation agreements.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients, team members and management.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail). Proficient in tracking and analyzing data with Excel and various databases, CRM software and utilizing tablets, and measuring tools.
  • Key Competencies: adaptable, collaborative work style, customer-focused, entrepreneurial spirit, hunter mentality, influencer, multi-tasking ability, organized, proactive self-starter, professional maturity, problem-solver, relationship-driven, results-focused, team-player.
  • Additional Requirements: Required to pass background, credit and social media checks and execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Company will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel to client, supplier and field locations in Chicagoland and Midwest U.S. states.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS INFORMATION:
