Location: 101 E. 15th Street, Austin, Texas 78778 (Remote)
Type: 12+ Month Contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Lead (Level 2) to support ongoing initiatives at the Texas Workforce Commission. The position is primarily remote, but may require occasional on-site attendance at the Austin office for scheduled or unscheduled meetings with at least 72 hours’ notice.

The Project Lead will provide day-to-day leadership to cross-functional teams, ensure projects stay on schedule, and assist Project Managers with planning, coordination, and communication to deliver successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams of developers, system analysts, and business analysts in daily project execution.
  • Monitor daily progress and ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Provide technical assistance and detailed updates to Project Managers and stakeholders.
  • Plan meetings, organize project logistics, and coordinate assigned special projects.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
  • Develop and deliver reports that provide meaningful insights into project performance.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Support training and communication initiatives related to ongoing projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience in project management in relevant areas such as IT, research, or planning.
  • 4–7 years providing technical assistance to Project Managers.
  • 4–7 years of experience leading teams in day-to-day project execution.
  • 4–7 years experience with project tracking and reporting tools.
  • Strong ability to plan meetings, organize logistics, and coordinate project activities.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a passion for efficient project delivery.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification (Project Management Professional).
  • Prior State of Texas government experience.
  • Experience working with Unemployment Systems.
  • 2+ years of experience managing projects involving Mainframe and Java technologies.

Work Environment

  • Remote-first role with occasional on-site meetings in Austin, TX.
  • Candidates must be able to attend meetings with 72-hour notice when required.
