Job description

Where markets move fast, messaging matters faster - were looking for a communications vice president who can turn complex investment banking stories into clear, credible narratives that influence investors, media, and stakeholders globally.    

As a Global Investment Banking External Communications Manager within the Commercial & Investment Bank, you will work in the Media Relations function and interact closely with all other parts of the Communications group. In addition, you will support external communications for investment banking on a day-to-day basis, reporting to the Head of Communications for Global Investment Banking. You will also be expected to translate complex market activity, transactions, and strategy into compelling narratives for media, coordinating closely with Media Relations and Marketing colleagues across the globe to tell a coordinated story covering this business. In addition, the person will provide reporting and analysis support on a regular basis to measure the wider team's impact in the market. 

Job responsibilities

  • Support proactive and reactive media engagement for the firm's Global Investment Banking business.
  • Establish, develop and maintain day-to-day relationships with key financial journalists and help them as they write about investment banking and the firm with commentary from the bank's spokespeople
  • Serve as counsel to our spokespeople and partners on media, reputation and communications strategy
  • Partner with senior executives and deal teams to deliver clear, credible messaging in fast-moving market environments to position the business as a trusted voice in the investment banking ecosystem through media engagement
  • Source comment opportunities and writing pitches for thought leadership comment opportunities in the financial and international media
  • Engage with broadcast and print media around our proprietary conferences including our Global Leveraged Finance conference, Global Healthcare conference and TMC, and other investor events
  • Manage logistics for media interviews or background conversations, and supporting our spokespeople throughout these interactions by curating key messaging and media training
  • Collaborate across the organization on internal communications, social media and content development
  • Assist in creating analysis and measurement reports for the regional Communications team; creating and maintaining media lists
  • Handle audit and other Compliance requirements for pre-approvals, disclosures, and logging of public appearances by spokespeople

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • 7+ years of experience in Media relations, external communication or similar experience 
  • Strong written and verbal skills with the confidence to communicate with senior stakeholders
  • A good nose for news across all aspects of investment banking, including M&A, industry sectors and Capital Markets. 
  • An obsessive attention to detail, a deep respect for journalism, an appetite for reading around the subject, and a curiosity to learn more about the markets and the role of banks 
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize high volume, high priority initiatives in a deadline-driven environment 
  • Strong interpersonal, networking and presentation skills, creativity, and ability to make sound media judgement calls 
  • Enthusiastic with a 'can do' approach for all aspects of their work
  • Ability to work independently to execute on projects while taking direction from multiple managers in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to maintaining the firm's high standards related to risk, compliance and its Code of Conduct
