Description

As the Internal Communications and Science Writer, you will create compelling content for both internal and external audiences, focusing on scientific research, advancements, and academic achievements.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop newsworthy stories highlighting basic and translational biomedical science

* Translate complex scientific concepts for peer audiences and the general public

* Produce content for websites, social media, press releases, and internal communications

* Write department announcements, executive messages, and community blog posts

* Collaborate with UCLA Health media relations, marketing, and internal communications teams

* Work closely with the communications team, including graphic artists, photographers, and videographers, to craft engaging stories


Salary Range: $70,900 - $145,200/annually


Qualifications We're seeking a talented writer with:
Required:

* A Bachelor's degree in public relations, communication, marketing, journalism, or relevant field and/or equivalent experience
* 5 - 10 years of experience with reporting and writing on biomedical sciences
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write effectively under deadline for a variety of purposes, audiences, and media
* Experience working in a higher education environment
* Proven ability to organize and collaborate effectively
* Strong capability to strategize and execute communication plans across various channels
* Ability to develop compelling infographics and multimedia that communicate information clearly and accurately
* Demonstrated expertise in discerning the most compelling and relevant news angles
* Advanced judgement, analytical and decision-making skills, with diplomacy for navigating sensitive topics
* Ability to learn quickly and adapt to fast-changing opportunities and challenges
* Experience writing for different platforms such as websites, blogs, newsletter, social media, etc.

Preferred:

* Experience in public relations or marketing, producing content in a variety of formats including print, web, social media, and advertising
* Skilled in utilizing techniques for developing online content delivery, encompassing web design, UX, layout, and accessibility compliance
