Job description

Description The hiring salary for this position is $45,953 - $48,607 annually. The full range for this position is $45,953 - $70,031 annually. Job Summary: Assists Utilities Mechanic in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all equipment and systems in water stations.

Position reports to the Head Operator. Examples of Duties Essential Functions: Assists in troubleshooting and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all equipment in water systems Assists in disassembling, rebuild and reassemble motors, valves, pumps gearboxes, etc. to rehabilitate equipment.

Check out and evaluate operation of equipment after rebuild is complete Assists in performing minor electrical work in conjunction with mechanical repairs (e.g., connects/disconnects wires, investigate/correct minor pump control problems) Responds to emergency and customer complaint calls Requests the purchase of parts, equipment and services needed to perform repairs Documents all preventive and corrective work performed Performs minor welding and cutting work to complete repairs and fabricate parts for bracing/repairs Performs station checks as needed Collects and analyzes water samples as needed Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned Typical Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.): Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission policies and procedures Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission to the public Expert knowledge of relevant maintenance and repair practices and procedures as they relate to liquid and gas chlorination, pumps, and valves Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for operating, repairing, removing and installing equipment/materials as well as for ensuring safety Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members and the public Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records Ability to wear appropriate PPE for confined space entry Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.): Training and/or Education: High school diploma or G.E.D

and two or more years of job-related experience Experience: Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience Licenses or Certificates: Must possess a valid Maryland driver's license, Class C Must apply for a Temporary Water License within 30 days of hire Special Requirements: None Physical Demands: Work demands occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling moderately heavy tools, equipment, or materials of 30 to 60 pounds or more. Unusual Demands: Work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., aggressive human behavior, extreme outdoor weather conditions, confined work space, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled
