Job description

THE POSITION As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing the Fish & Boat Commission's mission to protect, conserve, and improve the Commonwealth's aquatic resources while expanding high-quality fishing and boating opportunities. This position with our Bureau of Engineering applies your engineering expertise to a wide spectrum of complex and meaningful projects for hatcheries and other Commission facilities in diverse and scenic locations throughout the Commonwealth. Your contributions will help ensure long-term safety, sustainability, and community enjoyment.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this Senior Civil Engineer position, you will take on diverse and technically challenging projects that enhance safety, environmental stewardship, and public access for Pennsylvania's waterways and natural resources. Your professional expertise and collaboration will help keep vital structures safe, functional, and up to regulatory standards.

Work involves performing the following duties: Project Design: Develop engineering plans, calculations, and specifications for repairing or constructing new dams, hatcheries, roadways, buildings, and other facilities Project Oversight: Serve as a project manager, lead project engineer, or QA/QC control engineer, as well as assist with staff engineer work and be the agency point of contact for assigned projects Permit Coordination: Prepare and secure all required regulatory permits and approvals Inspect and Evaluate Facilities: Conduct field inspections including structural, hydraulic, and operational analysis to assess construction quality, facility conditions, and compliance status or operational efficiency Field Support: Assist survey crews, investigate public complaints, perform engineering analyses, and prepare technical reports outlining findings and recommendations Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

This schedule is able to be flexible. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 50% of work hours. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bellefonte. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Special Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
