Application Instructions
McNamara Contracting, a McNamara Company, is seeking a skilled Screed Operator to join our team. The primary functions of the Screed Operator are to ensure proper alignment, depth, and distribution of asphalt as it leaves the paver. This position works closely with the paver operator and ground crew to maintain a smooth, consistent mat and support overall paving quality and efficiency.

  • Monitor and adjust the flow of asphalt behind the screed to maintain correct thickness, width, and compaction.
  • Communicate constantly with the paver operator and other crew members to maintain a steady paving pace.
  • Rake, Lute, or shovel asphalt to correct low areas, remove excess, and achieve proper mat texture and grade.
  • Check mat quality frequently, including smoothness, joints and edges.
  • Assist with setup, cleaning, and maintenance of paving equipment and tools.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment around the paver.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including use of PPE and safe work practices around heavy equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the foreman, superintendent or Project Manager.

Position Requirements
Requirements:
  • CDL class A is strongly recommended.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3-years as a Screed Operator on a highway heavy paving crew preferred experience
  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving operations and equipment.
  • Ability to work collectively as a team and independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

  • Exposure to outdoor work environments under varying conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak paving season, including Saturdays.
  • Ability to work in high-paced, dynamic surroundings and swift decision-making.
  • Ability to lift various dimensions and weights frequently.
  • Frequent travel between job sites.
