Commission Custom Farming information

What is commission custom farming?

Commission custom farming is an agricultural business arrangement where a farmer or a farming company performs specific farm operations—such as planting, cultivating, or harvesting—on another person’s land for a fee or a share of the crop or proceeds. The landowner typically pays the custom farmer a predetermined rate for the work done, rather than hiring workers directly or sharing profits. This arrangement allows landowners to benefit from the expertise and equipment of professional farmers without having to invest in machinery or labor themselves.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission custom farming operator?

To thrive as a Commission Custom Farming Operator, you need expertise in modern agricultural practices, crop management, and operating a variety of farm machinery, often backed by experience or relevant agricultural certifications. Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies, GPS-guided equipment, and farm management software is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, time management, and effective communication with clients set outstanding operators apart. These skills are crucial for delivering efficient, high-quality services that meet clients' expectations and maximize farm productivity.

What are some of the common challenges faced by professionals in commission custom farming, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in commission custom farming often face challenges such as unpredictable weather, fluctuating crop prices, and coordinating schedules with landowners. Managing equipment maintenance and ensuring timely completion of contracted work can also be demanding, especially during peak seasons. Building strong communication with clients, investing in reliable machinery, and staying updated on market trends are key strategies to overcome these challenges. Additionally, diversifying services and maintaining flexibility can help smooth out variations in workload and income.

Job Description:

We are on the hunt for ambitious, results-driven Business Development Engineers to join our founding commercial team. This is a ground-floor opportunity for a hunter, not a farmer. Your primary mission is to prospect, win, and grow our business by aggressively expanding our customer base in the robotics and AI ecosystem. You will be the tip of the spear, responsible for identifying new markets, landing new logos, and driving revenue growth from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

1. New Market & Client Acquisition (The Hunt)

  • Proactively research, identify, and qualify new enterprise prospects (startups, research labs, corporations) within robotics, autonomous systems, and embodied AI landscape.

  • Execute outbound lead generation strategies (cold outreach, social selling, networking) and convert inbound inquiries.

  • Schedule and conduct discovery calls and client meetings to deeply understand potential customers' data challenges and training pipeline needs.

2. Solution Selling & Demand Generation (The Win)

  • Clearly articulate the value proposition of our existing data products and platform services.

  • Work consultatively with prospects to uncover unmet or emerging data needs, translating them into defined project scopes for custom data production.

  • Own and manage the full sales cycle for new accounts, from initial contact to negotiation and contract closure.

3. Project Orchestration & Client Success (The Growth)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new clients post-sale, ensuring a seamless onboarding experience.

  • Collaborate closely with our internal data operations and engineering teams to align on project specifications, timelines, and successful delivery of custom data solutions.

  • Advocate for client feedback within Maxinsights to inform future product development and service offerings.

Who You Are (Qualifications)

  1. Ambition & Grit: You are highly self-motivated, resilient, and possess an undeniable “hunter” mentality. You are driven by goals and thrive on building new relationships and closing deals.

  2. Proven Sales Aptitude: 1-3 years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or a client-facing role where you were measured on generating new business. Exceptional communication, presentation, and storytelling skills are mandatory.

  3. Fast Learner & Technically Curious: You have a sharp mind and can quickly grasp complex technical concepts related to robotics, AI, and data pipelines, allowing you to engage credibly with technical buyers.

  4. Collaborative Operator: You understand that winning as a team is essential. You excel at internal coordination to ensure client promises are delivered upon.

  5. Education: Bachelor’s degree or above. We value demonstrable drive, intelligence, and a track record of success above all.

  2. Founding Team Opportunity: A ground-floor role in a Silicon Valley startup with a seasoned founding team. Your impact will be direct, visible, and critical to our success.

  3. Accelerated Career Path: Clear and rapid advancement potential into senior commercial or leadership roles for those who deliver results.

  4. Strategic Impact & Network: Work on a fundamental problem in robotics and build a powerful network with industry leaders and innovators.
