Shift: 4x10 shift Monday - Thursday 5am-3:30pm (OT on Friday)
Pay: $20/hr

Job Title: Manufacturing Technician II

Location/Division Specific Information

The Marietta Manufacturing site is a part of the Laboratory Products Division within Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our laboratory equipment products are used primarily by pharmaceutical companies for drug discovery and development and by biotechnology companies and universities for life science research to advance the prevention and cure of diseases and enhance quality of life. Our offering consists of equipment, accessories, and services for sample preparation, storage and protection, and analysis.

How will you make an impact?

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will be critical to our production success by fabricating and constructing high-quality refrigeration systems for standard and custom laboratory equipment. Your technical expertise will ensure our products meet the exacting standards required by pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, and research institutions worldwide who depend on our equipment for life-saving discoveries.

What will you do?

Product Fabrication & Assembly

  • Fabricate and assemble products and parts according to specifications, build sheets, and documented instructions with emphasis on personal/environmental safety and quality
  • Route tubing, braze connections, and inspect for leaks in a manner that meets quality and safety standards
  • Bolt, screw, cement, braze, or fasten parts together using hand tools or portable power tools
  • Operate tube cutting and flaring equipment using machines and hand tools

System Testing & Quality Control

  • Evacuate and charge refrigeration units by pumping gases and oils per documented specifications
  • Inspect assembly components for leaks by connecting gas handler and performing specified processes
  • Perform final inspection to ensure all faults have been identified and resolved before release
  • Verify conformance of workpiece to specifications using scales, refrigeration gauges, vacuum and pressure gauges, calipers, and measuring tools
  • Interpret test data from charts and reports to ensure operational quality of finished units
  • Calibrate circuit boards as designated by PSS in conjunction with product specifications

Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Troubleshoot work-related problems by applying knowledge and experience toward resolution and taking appropriate steps for assistance
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration-related troubleshooting and make necessary repairs
  • Identify root causes of faults, determine best action for resolution, and complete repairs to ensure units operate properly
  • Remove burrs and rough spots from parts with hand file and portable pneumatic grinder when needed

Documentation & Data Management

  • Complete documents such as Final Inspection Reports and Total Quality Control sheets as determined by process guidelines
  • Enter and retrieve data by unit/serial number for final inspection reports and testing using Excel and other applications
  • Enter product-related data into computer system to track component serial numbers, scan bar codes, production rates, and physical location

Safety & Compliance

  • Transport, store, and replace gases and tanks by identifying contents and understanding related safety issues
  • Maintain compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

How will you get here?

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels, and work instructions
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, reach, and handle bulky parts throughout the shift
  • Capability to frequently lift up to 35 pounds
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills
  • Must obtain initial brazing certification after onboarding and maintain recertification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Refrigerant Recovery Certification and completion of Basic Refrigeration Course
  • Previous experience with brazing and/or using torch
  • One year of experience in refrigeration, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, or industrial setting
