Job description

The Department of Neurology at our organization, in collaboration with a regional healthcare facility, is on the lookout for a faculty member to join the Division of Vascular Neurology. This role will involve serving as a vascular neurologist on the campus, under the guidance of the Chair of Neurology and the Chief of Neurology, who also directs the Stroke program. The selected candidate will work closely with our Neuro Interventional team. Candidates must have completed a minimum of one year in a vascular neurology fellowship and hold an MD or equivalent. Additionally, they should be board certified or eligible in both Neurology and Vascular Neurology, with the capability to secure an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license.

Key Highlights
  • Join the vascular neurology division at our regional campus, which includes four vascular neurology physicians, two neurointerventionalists, five Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and a dedicated clinic team.
  • Engage in collaboration with a committed group of local and regional neurologists, neurointerventionalists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, APPs, stroke nurses, and social workers.
  • Benefit from additional collaborative opportunities with our main campus, including educational lecture series, larger departmental events, and avenues for teaching and research.
What We Offer
  • A sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
  • A competitive salary and rank based on experience, along with an exceptional benefits package.
  • Six weeks of salary support for vacation (four weeks) and continuing medical education (CME) allowance (two weeks).
  • An appointment as faculty at our medical school, aligned with experience.
About the Department of Neurology and the Vascular Neurology/Neurointerventional Division
  • The regional healthcare facility is a 400-bed system serving nearly 400,000 residents in central Pennsylvania.
  • It is a Joint Commission certified stroke center and has been conducting neurointerventional procedures since 2018.
  • Clinical teaching opportunities are available on campus, with rotating medical students participating in required Neurology Clerkships and Stroke/NIR electives from both Drexel and our medical school.
  • Clinical services encompass outpatient clinics, inpatient vascular neurology services, and neurointerventional services, with a separate neurohospitalist service for general neurology consultations.
  • Research at our facility includes funded clinical trials focused on stroke, aimed at providing our patients with access to cutting-edge care, including drug and device trials.
  • Research funding for clinical, basic, data science, and translational studies within the Neurology department has seen consistent growth, with over $25 million in research support received in FY25.
  • The Department of Neurology has been awarded the NINDS UE5 grant to support research training for residents and fellows through the "Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neuropathology Pittsburgh Research Education Plan (N3-PREP)" and is part of the NINDS Network for Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials (NeuroNEXT).

  • Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, biking, paddling, fishing, golfing, and skiing at nearby state parks, resorts, and rail trails. The nearby town of State College, home to Penn State's University Park campus, features Big Ten sports, national touring artists, and a vibrant college atmosphere.
  • Altoona hosts a professional baseball team, the Altoona Curve, affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and boasts a cultural district with symphony and theater performances.
  • Our organization is recognized as a leader in medicine, education, healthcare, robotics, software engineering, and high-tech industries.
