Backend API Developer, Junior Silver Spring, MD / Remote Public Trust Eligible Required Blu Omega is seeking a Backend API Developer, Junior to support a federal program focused on building the enterprise data layer for the National Weather Service. This role operates within a mission-driven environment and is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing APIs for searching and accessing weather datasets within that enterprise data layer. The position requires experience supporting backend/API development in a mission-critical data environment.
Program Overview Program: CIRRUS (Central Integrated Real-Time Repository for Unified Services) Mission overview: Build the enterprise data layer for the National Weather Service by enabling ingestion, processing, and dissemination of critical weather datasets, including radar, satellite, and numerical weather models. Key Details Location: Primarily Remote; occasional on-site support may be required in Silver Spring, MD. In-person team meetings may occur occasionally.
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability/fitness determination based on client requirements Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card) Responsibilities * Design, develop, and implement Python Fast APIs based on requirements * Follow approved Agile life cycle methodologies, create design documents, and perform program coding * Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation * Interpret data, analyze results, and provide ongoing reports * Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources * Identify, analyze, and interpret data sets and document recommendations Required Qualifications * 2+ years of relevant professional experience * Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree can count for 2 years of work experience) * Strong knowledge of Python and experience with Fast API * Experience with web services (RESTful) * Experience with source control management (Git) * Experience with build automation (Jenkins, Hudson) * U.S. citizenship or permanent residence * Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability/fitness determination based on client requirements Preferred Qualifications * Experience working in an Agile development environment * Experience with JIRA * Excellent communication and teamwork skills Compensation Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.
