Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Engineer

Plumbing & Mechanical HVAC

Bozeman, Montana

About the Role:

We’re looking for a forward-thinking Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Engineer to join our team! In this role, you’ll create coordinated 3D models and fabrication drawings for mechanical and plumbing systems on large residential and commercial projects. You’ll support every stage of project design, from preconstruction planning to field installation.

About Our Company:

We are a leading design-build plumbing and mechanical contractor in the Gallatin Valley, delivering advanced preconstruction services for complex projects. Our team leverages BIM/VDC, 3D modeling, high-density scanning, and augmented reality to bring construction projects to life before the first pipe is laid. By joining us, you’ll help visualize and coordinate the entire project lifecycle, ensuring smooth construction and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 3D Modeling & Coordination: Build detailed, constructible 3D models in Revit/Navisworks for prefabrication and field installation. Perform clash detection and coordinate routing with other trades to prevent field conflicts.
  • Documentation & Materials: Prepare coordination, fabrication, and installation drawings from your models. Generate Bills of Materials to support procurement.
  • Collaboration & Planning: Review construction drawings, specifications, and submittals. Work closely with engineers, project managers, superintendents, and clients to develop cohesive construction plans.
  • Field Support: Assist with survey and field layout under guidance from senior field engineers.
  • Problem Solving: Address complex coordination challenges and help resolve schedule or construction conflicts.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in construction, ideally on the mechanical or plumbing contractor side.
  • Familiarity with Montana plumbing and mechanical codes and standards.
  • Strong professional skills for interacting with team members, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Experience with large-scale commercial or residential projects is a plus.

Preferred Software Skills:

  • Autodesk Revit
  • Autodesk CAMduct
  • Autodesk Navisworks
  • Bluebeam Revu
  • Procore
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Healthcare: Multiple medical plan options, including HSA/FSA contributions; dental and vision coverage; telemedicine
  • Retirement & Financial Security: 401(k) with employer match up to 8% (based on company performance), company-paid life insurance, optional disability coverage
  • Time Off & Support: Paid time off, 6 holidays, Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Professional Growth: Training through our internal academy, online courses, and ongoing development opportunities
  • Additional Perks: Pet insurance, company events (archery, golf tournaments, etc.), discounted gym memberships, and more
  • Location Perks: Live and work in the beautiful Gallatin Valley, with endless outdoor recreation and Montana lifestyle
