Robotic Delivery & Packaging Innovation (RDPI) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. RDPI builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move many millions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised we would get it to them.
We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. The RDPI Sortation teams build and maintain core software and services in Amazon Fulfillment Centers that help move billions of items and packages across our network and to our customers in the most efficient way possible. If you've ever bought something from Amazon, there's a very good chance that our software was directly involved in getting it to you.

A successful candidate for this position will be able to build new software from the ground up, create pragmatic solutions for complex business problems, enjoy working closely with operations staff in Amazon fulfillment centers around the world.
Key job responsibilities
As a member of this team, you will get the opportunity to own and deliver highly visible, innovative projects that directly impact the customer experience. You will be involved in driving the technical and architectural vision for a core team that touches every Amazon package, as well as all the aspects of the software development cycle including scoping, design, implementation, testing & delivery of our product. - Lead the design, development, and deployment of highly visible, innovative projects that directly impact the customer experience
- Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams through coaching, career development, and performance management
- Drive technical excellence by establishing best practices, architectural standards, and quality metrics
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Operations, and other stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes
- Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement
- Own your team's technical roadmap and resource planning to meet business objectives
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative team culture that promotes innovation and learning
- Manage project dependencies, risks, and resource allocation effectively
- Drive data-driven decision making through metrics and KPIs
- Participate in hiring and recruitment to build strong technical teams
About the team
Robotic Delivery & Packaging Innovation (RDPI) powers Amazon's global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- 3+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
- 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++ experience
- 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
- 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
