Job description

Job Title: Vascular Technologist

Location: Cooperman Barnabas Medical Ctr

Job Overview:

Join our advanced cardiovascular team at Saint Barnabas Medical Center as a Vascular Technologist within our dedicated Vascular Lab department. In this non-exempt clinical role, you will be responsible for performing high-quality, advanced vascular ultrasound examinations to ensure accurate imaging and detailed diagnostic measurements. Operating under the direction of the Chief Technologist, you will actively support lab efficiency, quality assurance initiatives, workflow coordination, and patient care excellence across hospital-based units.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Vascular Ultrasound Program.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience in Vascular Technology.
  • Active Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT through ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS through CCI) certification.
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/BLS Certification.
  • Proven proficiency in performing standard abdominal duplex scans.
  • Comprehensive clinical knowledge of arterial duplex, PVR/ABI, Carotid, and venous studies, including full recognition of relevant anatomy and pathology.
  • Physical capability to bend, stoop, stand for extended periods (up to one hour), and push portable scanning equipment weighing approximately 30 pounds to the ICU and patient rooms.
  • Successful completion of all required hospital orientation programs and competencies.

Preferred:

  • Two (2) or more years of Transcranial Doppler (TCD) imaging and non-imaging experience.
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex scheduling conflicts and adjusting to sudden workflow shifts.

  • Status: Per Diem (PD) Day

Essential Functions:

  • Vascular Studies & Clinical Knowledge: Performs high-quality routine and advanced vascular exams—including abdominal duplex scans, Dialysis Access evaluations, and Transcranial Doppler tests—ensuring compliance with Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards.
  • Lab Efficiency & Scheduling: Maintains the laboratory schedule, prioritizes portable bedside studies, and coordinates clinical throughput to accommodate unexpected emergency procedures or scheduling conflicts.
  • Diagnostic Accuracy: Obtains accurate Doppler measurements and spectral analyses, utilizing targeted equipment adjustments to eliminate technical artifacts and errors.
  • Documentation & Communication: Reviews medical orders for accuracy, cross-references clinical history within the EMR, logs preliminary or incidental findings, and adheres strictly to the hospital's critical results policy before submitting files for physician review.
  • Equipment & Inventory Upkeep: Inspects scanning equipment continuously for proper functionality, alerts management to technical issues, and restocks laboratory supply par levels at the close of every shift.
  • Safety & Cross-Coverage: Fosters a strong team environment by providing clinical cross-coverage across hospital-based facilities while adhering to strict infection control protocols regarding communicable diseases and patient transport.
