About This Position: As a Vessel Operator, you'll play an important role in keeping LADOTD's marine operations moving safely and efficiently. You'll operate state-owned towing vessels, work with a professional marine crew, and help ensure vessels and equipment are properly maintained and ready for service. This position is ideal for someone who is safety-minded, dependable, comfortable working independently, and able to make sound decisions when conditions change.

You'll also have opportunities to participate in specialized training and continuing education to keep your skills current. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Operate state-owned towing vessels used to push, pull, or haul equipment and materials in support of LADOTD marine operations. Monitor and perform routine maintenance on vessel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, pumps, sanitation systems, and other marine equipment.

Maintain vessel logs and required reports while safely operating marine radios, radar, navigation, and emergency equipment. Serve as a lookout and support the crew in maintaining safe vessel operations, including emergency drills, refueling procedures, and disaster response activities. Position Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty.

Career Progression: May be filled as a as Ferryboat Operator 1, 2, or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Compensation: Below is the starting Hourly rate and premium pay amount for each level. Some positions may qualify for a SER (Special Entrance Rate).

Ferryboat Operator 1 -$21.05 /hr up to $37.88/hr Ferryboat Operator 2 -SER of $24.82/hr up to $43.37/hr Ferryboat Operator 3 -$27.60/hr up to $49.66/hr You may be eligible to receive a 6.5g pay adjustment depending on qualifications. All 3 above levels have: Premium Pay for Hours Actually Worked of $2.00/Hour Shift Differential Pay of $1.75/Hour Please refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LA Careers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualification and job concepts for each level.
