Job description

Job Summary

Provide field coordination and oversight of a specific crew or crews. This position is responsible for overall safety, materials, reporting, leadership, employee communication, and productivity measures.


Responsibilities

  • Review plans and permits
  • Supervise, train, and develop work crews, provide input and assist crews when needed in operating other equipment and/or assisting the laborers out in the field
  • Maintain a safe worksite and enforce safe work practices by following company rules and OSHA regulations, leading crew pre-task planning, addressing employee concerns, and hazard abatement
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, traffic, and falling objects
  • Ensure that materials, equipment, and tools are safely loaded/unloaded, secured to crew vehicles, cleaned and maintained as prescribed
  • Inspect company vehicle for proper operating conditions, proper security, and proper stock of materials, both pre and post-trip
  • Report any maintenance needs or improper operating conditions of crew trucks or equipment to the proper party
  • Check work area to ensure it is clean, secure, good housekeeping is being practiced, poses no risk to the public, employees, or the environment
  • Write any necessary reports, complete forms, post job related information on computer, find job information on computer as required and directed; including, but not limited to using Track/Bid2Win and other applications, as required
  • Enter and submit crew's hours of work accurately into Track and ensure that timecards are signed by all crew members
  • Perform safety inspections of crew and equipment, provide feedback, stop any unsafe work (stop work authority), and complete reports as necessary, Near Misses, Incident/Accident Reports, etc.
  • Wear required PPE
  • Monitor quality standards of all jobs, including crew performance, and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are being met
  • Ensure adherence to ethics and compliance requirements
  • Be able to performs a wide variety of manual labor tasks involving dexterous use of hand tools such as pneumatic, electric, and hand tools

Required Skills & Abilities

  • High School diploma or equivalent education
  • 5+ years of experience in wet municipal and commercial utilities, including water, sewer, and storm drains
  • Must have flexibility in personal schedule including weekdays and occasional night and weekend work
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, integrity, accountability, productivity, and teamwork
  • OSHA, competent person, confined space, hazard abatement, and related safety training is a requirement, and all training required is to be met/provided prior to acquiring the role of a foreman
  • Ability to stand and exert physical effort performing manual labor most of the day
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Training, knowledge, and ability to work in, and/or supervise activities in, confined spaces
  • Ability to read and follow plans, drawings, and directions (verbal and written)
  • Willingness to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat, eye protection, reflective vest, gloves and composite-toed boots
  • Must be able to work safely outdoors in Arizona heat conditions and perform all job duties with no restrictions
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of and experience in underground dry and/or wet utility installation is required
  • Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or near roads and highways.
  • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety standards and Underground Facilities Law (Blue Stake, Arizona 811)
  • Good communication skills and the ability to manage and interact in a team environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:

  • The outdoor elements, subject to variations in temperature and weather conditions, equipment noise, and dust
  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling
