Job description


Our client is seeking a Datacomm Installation Technician to support network infrastructure and low-voltage projects across the Greater Hampton Roads and Richmond areas.
This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems in commercial environments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, committed to quality workmanship, and enjoys working as part of a team to deliver successful projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install and complete structured cabling systems for commercial projects
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and project specifications
  • Build and install network racks, cabinets, ladder rack systems, and cable pathways
  • Perform grounding, bonding, labeling, testing, and documentation of installed systems
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, office staff, clients, and other trades
  • Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and according to quality standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Travel locally to job sites as needed
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of structured cabling installation experience preferred
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling systems
  • Knowledge of patch panels, 110/66 blocks, and multi-pair copper systems
  • Experience working with network racks, cabinets, and cable pathway systems
  • Understanding of grounding and bonding practices
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
  • Familiarity with commercial construction environments
  • Basic computer and networking knowledge
  • BICSI Installer, Panduit, Ortronics, or similar industry certifications preferred
  • Experience with audio/video, access control, or surveillance systems is a plus
Additional Requirements
  • Own basic industry tools
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check and become DCJS licensed
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and active construction sites
  • Ability to safely use power tools and testing equipment
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet project deadlines
