Job Position: Lead Voice & Data Technician
Location: San Antonio, TX 78249
Pay Rate: $25.00 $30.00 per hour (Based on Experience)
Position Overview
TradeSTAR is seeking an experienced Lead Voice & Data Technician to lead the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems for commercial construction projects throughout the San Antonio area. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in copper and fiber optic cabling, can supervise field crews, and is committed to delivering high-quality network infrastructure installations safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Lead commercial structured cabling installation projects from rough-in through final completion.
Install, terminate, label, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling.
Perform copper certification testing using Fluke test equipment and document results.
Perform fiber optic termination, fusion splicing, OTDR testing, and troubleshooting.
Install cable pathways including J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rack, conduit, sleeves, and innerduct.
Build and organize MDFs, IDFs, server rooms, and telecommunications closets.
Install network racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable management systems, and grounding components.
Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, telecommunications drawings, and wiring schematics.
Troubleshoot cable failures, connectivity issues, certification failures, and physical layer network problems.
Coordinate daily activities with project managers, general contractors, and customer representatives.
Maintain accurate labeling, testing documentation, and as-built drawings.
Train and mentor junior technicians while ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to project schedules.
Ensure all installations comply with ANSI/TIA, BICSI, NEC, and customer specifications.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of commercial Voice & Data or structured cabling experience.
Experience leading installation crews on commercial construction projects.
Proficiency installing and terminating CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling.
Experience using Fluke certification testers and fiber testing equipment.
Ability to read blueprints, telecom drawings, and construction documents.
Strong understanding of ANSI/TIA structured cabling standards.
Experience installing MDF/IDF rooms and network infrastructure.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in commercial construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
BICSI Installer or Technician Certification.
Fiber optic fusion splicing certification.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
Experience with data centers, healthcare, education, or industrial construction projects.
Lift certification.
Compensation & Benefits
