Job description

Technician I - Structured Cabling | Position Summary
The Technician I - Structured Cabling is an entry-level field position responsible for assisting with the installation, support, and termination of structured cabling systems in commercial environments. This role provides hands-on experience in low-voltage cabling infrastructure, including copper and fiber optic systems, while developing the technical skills required to advance within the telecommunications industry. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work safely in construction and data center environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install work area outlets for floor monuments, modular furniture, and wall applications.
  • Pull, route, support, and dress low-voltage cabling using industry-standard methods and hardware.
  • Perform cable preparation activities, including measuring, labeling, organizing, and managing slack.
  • Install cable support systems such as cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze supports.
  • Build and organize telecommunications closets, including racks, patch panels, cross-connects, backboards, and fiber optic hardware.
  • Install grounding and bonding systems for racks, equipment, and cabling infrastructure.
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures and install sleeves for cable penetrations through walls and floors.
  • Terminate low-voltage copper and fiber optic devices according to company and industry standards.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time, including timesheets, work orders, material transfers, and change orders.
  • Follow all company, customer, and industry safety and quality standards.
  • Assist with additional project duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 0-1 year of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, construction, or a related technical field.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn telecommunications infrastructure installation.
  • Basic understanding of construction environments preferred.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and industry-standard cabling tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements preferred.

Qualifications
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must be able to work in an outdoor or indoor construction work environment.
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must possess proven problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must have proven skill level or the ability to learn to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must be able to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
Must be able to stand and walk very large job sites regularly.
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
The Technician I - Structured Cabling I must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
