Position Summary:

The Paint Champion is responsible for oversight of the paint department inside sales and service functions in the store. Must possess a basic level of commercial and DIY paint products and uses, customer service, merchandising, and overall store operations. The duties of this position are to be performed while demonstrating and encouraging Ace Hardware’s core values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to every customer by being helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
  • Efficient, personalized delivery of paint services in a high-touch, high-energy environment.
  • Help unload incoming trucks, put away merchandise, and maintain (clean, organize and stock) for assigned department, category or zone as assigned.
  • Receive, store and distribute paint and related products according to store procedures.
  • Oversee daily operations of commercial paint sales and provide support to the B2B Sales Representative.
  • Possess product knowledge related to commercial/DIY painting projects, paint applications and warranties, and related sundries.
  • Demonstrate strong communications skills while interacting with a diverse customer base as well as store management team and associates.
  • Assist customers in choosing paint colors by using available color selection tools including paint chips.
  • Dispense and mix paint to a specific color chip or to match a customer’s item.
  • Recommend products for commercial paint/DIY usage and actively promotes add-on sales through suggestive selling techniques when assisting customers with projects.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of merchandise available, product usage, and store location to provide customers with helpful and accurate information.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of daily shelf maintenance and retail operations including sales goals, pricing, margins, and profit, etc.
  • Effectively handle paint and related spills as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum of 2 years retail experience and previous paint sales experience required.
  • Knowledge of commercial paint ordering, sampling, product shrink and waste control measures and processes, product receiving and transfer processes, and expense control.
  • Extensive experience in commercial paint/coating sales and service along with the ability to mix a paint.
  • Possess color matching skills. Ability to visually distinguish, coordinate, and eye color match.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Must have excellent attention to detail and follow up.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as being comfortable talking exisitng and new customers.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and strategic partnerships.
  • Willing to learn other areas of the store and help train others as needed.
  • Ability to work in a team or in assigned area with limited supervision.
  • Ability to lift, load and stock product including 5-gallon containers with team lift assistance to a height of 4 feet.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Bilingual (Spanish) verbal and written communication skills strongly preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company’s insurance carrier’s standards.
