Job Title: Heavy Laundry Worker
Department: Laundry / Housekeeping / Environmental Services
Reports To: Laundry Supervisor or Operations Manager
Job Summary
A Heavy Laundry Worker is responsible for washing, drying, sorting, folding, and transporting large volumes of linens, uniforms, towels, and other washable items. This role often includes operating industrial laundry equipment, handling heavy loads, maintaining cleanliness in the work area, and ensuring laundry is processed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
  • Sort soiled laundry by type, color, fabric, and washing requirements.
  • Load and unload industrial washers, dryers, and extractors.
  • Operate laundry machines according to safety and operating procedures.
  • Fold, stack, and prepare clean laundry for delivery or storage.
  • Transport heavy bags, carts, and bundles of laundry to and from work areas.
  • Inspect linens and garments for stains, damage, or needed repairs.
  • Apply proper detergents, bleaches, and other cleaning agents as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laundry area and equipment.
  • Monitor machine performance and report malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and workplace sanitation standards.
  • Keep accurate counts or records of laundry processed, if required.
