Job description

Commercial Kitchen, Refrigeration & Facilities Technician (Regional)

About the Position

Polly Management LLC is a fast-growing multi-unit franchise operator managing 35 Dairy Queen restaurants across Indiana and Michigan. We are seeking an experienced Commercial Kitchen, Refrigeration & Facilities Technician to oversee equipment reliability, facility safety, and operational uptime within an assigned regional territory.

This is a high-level, independent field role tailored for a skilled mechanical professional. Instead of driving across the entire state, you will own a dedicated geographic pod of restaurants, keeping "windshield time" minimal and predictable. You will report directly to the Facilities Field Supervisor and work alongside store managers to prevent equipment and facility downtime.

Perks include: A dedicated, fully-stocked take-home company vehicle, fuel card, paid portal-to-portal drive time (clock starts when you leave your house), and an annual uniform allowance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facility & Equipment First Response: Serve as the first call for any building or equipment issue at your assigned locations — from a tripped breaker or leaking pipe to a failed compressor or soft-serve machine down. You're expected to triage and resolve across both domains, not hand off facility issues to someone else.
  • Specialized Equipment Repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial restaurant equipment, including soft-serve machines, commercial fryers, grills, ice machines, high-capacity coolers, and walk-in freezers.
  • HVAC & Refrigeration: Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and component repairs on commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems (EPA type1 and type 2 certification required).
  • General Facility Maintenance: Handle electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and restaurant fixture repairs to keep locations safe and operational — this is core to the role, not a side task.
  • Regional Asset Management: Manage scheduled preventative maintenance protocols across your assigned locations to increase machine lifecycles and reduce emergency service calls.
  • Team & Vendor Communication: Document parts used and track work orders digitally. Identify large-scale structural issues that require specialized contractors and assist the Field Supervisor in coordinating third-party vendors.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe company vehicle, stock inventory, and tool set while adhering to all corporate, food safety, and OSHA guidelines.

QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in commercial HVAC, commercial refrigeration, commercial kitchen equipment repair, or general facilities maintenance (electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record capable of meeting company commercial insurance requirements.
  • Proven ability to independently diagnose complex mechanical/electrical issues across both equipment and facility systems, prioritize urgent service tickets, and work efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills to partner effectively with store General Managers and corporate operations.

Preferred
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Highly Preferred).
  • Prior experience specifically servicing high-volume Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR) environments.
  • Manufacturer training or certifications for commercial refrigeration, soft-serve machinery, or commercial food-service gear.
  • Background in general building maintenance (basic electrical, plumbing, or carpentry repairs) a plus.

Physical and Schedule Requirements
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work safely around active commercial kitchens, electrical panels, and chemical/refrigeration systems.
  • Standard Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Availability: Participation in a predictable, rotating on-call weekend/evening schedule for true emergency outages (walk-in freezer failures, total HVAC loss).

Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive Hourly Rate: $28.00 – $36.00 / hour, heavily dependent on commercial kitchen experience, active certifications, and diagnostic skills.
  • Company Vehicle: Take-home service van, specialty tools provided, and full corporate fuel card.
  • Uniform Allowance: Annual stipend to replace uniform
  • Benefits: Company-sponsored major medical insurance (eligible after 90 days), optional dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance.
  • Additional Perks: Daily meal allowance at store locations, uniform allowance, and 120 hours of accrued PTO per year with a limited cash-out option.

Polly Management LLC is an equal opportunity employer.

Regular Schedule: Monday-Friday 8a-5p
Rotating On-Call
Emergency availability: nights/weekends
