Commercial Graphics Installation information

What is commercial graphics installation?

Commercial graphics installation is the process of professionally applying large-format graphics, such as vinyl wraps, wall murals, window graphics, and signage, to commercial spaces and vehicles. Installers use specialized tools and techniques to ensure that graphics are applied smoothly, securely, and in alignment with the client's branding and design specifications. This service helps businesses enhance their visibility, communicate messages, and create visually appealing environments. Installers often work with a variety of surfaces, including glass, walls, floors, and vehicles, requiring attention to detail and knowledge of different materials. The job may also include site surveys, surface preparation, and removal of old graphics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commercial graphics installer?

To thrive as a Commercial Graphics Installer, you need proficiency in measuring, cutting, and applying various graphic materials, along with a keen eye for detail and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools such as vinyl plotters, heat guns, squeegees, and sometimes certification from manufacturers or industry associations is valuable. Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills help installers coordinate with clients and teams while adapting to different work environments. These skills ensure precise, durable installations that meet client expectations and uphold safety and quality standards.

What are some common challenges faced by commercial graphics installers and how can they be overcome?

Commercial graphics installers often encounter challenges such as working with uneven surfaces, adhering to tight project deadlines, and ensuring precise alignment of large-scale graphics. Overcoming these challenges typically involves thorough site assessments, careful surface preparation, and using specialized tools like squeegees and heat guns for smooth application. Effective communication with clients and team members is also essential to clarify expectations and quickly address any issues that arise during installation.

Tennessee Sign Company is a growing regional sign company serving businesses throughout Tennessee. We design, manufacture, and install custom signage, graphics, channel letters, illuminated signs, monuments, wall graphics, vehicle graphics, and other visual branding solutions.
We are looking for an experienced Sign & Graphics Installation Team Member to join our installation team. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, understands the importance of safety and professionalism, and can confidently install a wide variety of commercial signage and graphics.

The Sign & Graphics Installation Team Member is responsible for the safe, professional, and efficient installation of signs, graphics, and related products at commercial and customer locations.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with sign installation and be comfortable working from ladders, lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding, and other equipment as required.
This is a hands-on position for an experienced installer who can work independently when necessary while also contributing effectively as part of an installation crew.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install exterior and interior commercial signage according to approved drawings and installation specifications.
  • Install illuminated signs, channel letters, cabinets, monuments, dimensional letters, post-and-panel signs, and other sign systems.
  • Install vinyl graphics, wall graphics, window graphics, vehicle graphics, and other printed products.
  • Perform wall, fascia, raceway, pole, monument, and other sign installations.
  • Safely operate ladders, lifts, bucket trucks, drills, hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment.
  • Perform electrical connections associated with sign installation when properly qualified and authorized.
  • Assist with sign removal, repairs, retrofits, maintenance, and service work.
  • Read and understand installation drawings, measurements, specifications, and work orders.
  • Properly measure and lay out installation locations before drilling or mounting.
  • Ensure signs are securely mounted and installed according to company standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at job sites.
  • Protect customer property and facilities during installation.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, property managers, and other job-site personnel.
  • Document completed work and communicate any installation issues to the project manager or supervisor.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload signs, tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Represent Tennessee Sign Company professionally at every job site.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 2+ years of professional sign installation experience preferred.
  • Experience installing commercial signage and/or graphics.

  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
  • Comfortable working at heights and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver sign materials and equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional appearance and attitude when interacting with customers.
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience is a strong plus:
  • Bucket truck experience.
  • Aerial lift and/or boom lift experience.

  • Experience working with general contractors and construction crews.
  • Experience reading architectural drawings or sign installation drawings.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
  • Knows how to install signs correctly—not just quickly.
  • Takes ownership of the finished product.
  • Pays attention to alignment, level, spacing, appearance, and detail.
  • Understands that the installation is often the final representation of our company's work.
  • Works safely and does not take shortcuts.
  • Can troubleshoot problems in the field and find practical solutions.
  • Communicates clearly with supervisors and customers.
  • Takes care of company vehicles, tools, equipment, and customer property.
  • Is willing to learn new installation techniques and products.
  • Wants to grow with a company rather than simply work a job.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 75 pounds.
  • Work from ladders, lifts, bucket trucks, and elevated work platforms.
  • Work at various heights.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in hot, cold, windy, and wet conditions.
  • Travel to customer and job sites throughout the company's service area.
  • Safely operate and work around power tools and installation equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience, skill level, and qualifications.
