Position Description
Do you have a passion for engineering and solving complex problems? Are you seeking an internship opportunity that not only enhances your engineering skills but also provides exposure into the Mechanical Contracting industry?
As an Engineering Intern, you'll have the opportunity to support our Engineering team with tasks associated with commercial design projects. SVM's internship provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the intricacies of HVAC engineering, from design and analysis to project collaboration. Working closely with experienced Mechanical Engineers, the Engineering Intern can apply their academic knowledge to real-world scenarios, gaining valuable insights and essential skills required for a successful career in the Mechanical Contracting industry.
What You will Do:
  • Assist with HVAC designs, system layouts and other engineering projects to be utilized for prospective projects and secured jobs.
  • Shadow senior engineers and complete weekly learning objectives to maintain an understanding of steps required to complete HVAC design.
  • Maintain, update, and organize engineering project documentation per SVM standards.
  • Perform CAD drafting and modeling work that encompasses current design standards.
  • Perform load calculations including heating/cooling loads, equipment selection, sizing, pipe and duct sizing, friction loss calculations, etc.
  • Attend various internal and external trainings to improve HVAC system knowledge.
  • Assist with performing prescriptive Title 24 Acceptance documents.
  • Attend job walks and other project meetings as directed by Team Captain.
  • Assist with filling out equipment schedules.
  • Maintain a commitment to excellence and to always act in the best interest of Silicon Valley Mechanical .
  • Support the Engineering Department with other tasks and projects as business requires.

Position Requirements
Education, Skills & Experience:
  • Pursuing a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Construction Management required.
  • Prior intern experience with a mechanical contractor and/or engineering consultant highly preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism when working with SVM employees, vendors and customers required.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain organization, and meet deadlines required.
  • Must be accountable and strive accuracy on commitments required.
  • Outstanding ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written a must.
  • Experience with Viewpoint of another Construction Accounting Software preferred.
  • Proven proficiency in various office equipment and programs including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) required.

Compensation:
This is an hourly full-time internship opportunity. The compensation for this role is $35.00 per hour and is based on experience and skillset. The work schedule/role includes one 30-minute unpaid lunch break and two paid separate rest breaks.
Physical Requirements:
As an Engineering Intern in the Mechanical Contracting Industry, there are certain physical requirements you should be aware of. These requirements ensure that you are capable of performing the necessary tasks safely and effectively. The key physical requirements for this role are outlined below:
  • This role may involve physical activity including walking, standing, and driving while moving around the office and visiting construction sites to assess systems.
  • This role may require reviewing and interpreting architectural drawings, schematics, and other technical documents related to system design.
  • This role may require the use of computer design software and other tools to create accurate and detailed system designs.
  • This role may involve working at a desk, computer, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • This role may require clear verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and contractors.
  • This role may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during job walks and site visits.
