Job description

A full-service acute care hospital in Springfield, OH is seeking a Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician for ongoing locum tenens coverage starting May 28. This opportunity involves a broad scope of adult cardiothoracic, thoracic, and vascular surgery cases within a high-acuity hospital environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing complex surgical cases and providing comprehensive perioperative and inpatient care.

  • 250 total hospital beds
  • 60 ICU beds
  • Adult patients only
  • 100% hospital-based practice
  • Documentation system: Epic

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical coverage
  • Perform inpatient rounding and perioperative patient management
  • Evaluate and manage acute cardiovascular and thoracic surgical conditions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary surgical, ICU, and hospital teams
  • Manage ventilator support and acute blood pressure/volume status issues
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the EMR system

Shift & Schedule

  • Coverage Start: May 28 at 7:00 AM
  • Initial Coverage Need: Ongoing for at least 2 months
  • Additional Coverage: Sporadic ongoing coverage after initial assignment
  • Shift Type: 24-Hour Call Coverage
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM
  • Weekend Coverage: Required
  • On-Call Requirements: Yes

Requirements

  • MD or DO required
  • Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Active Ohio medical license required
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification
  • Experienced and comfortable performing general cardiovascular, thoracic, and vascular surgeries
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Congenital defect repairs
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Valvular repair and replacement procedures
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Aneurysm repair
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Lung resections including VATS procedures
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Chest wall and pleural procedures
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Esophageal and diaphragm surgeries
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Carotid and renal endarterectomy
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Bronchoscopy
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Ventilation management
  • Experienced and comfortable performing Evaluation and management of acute volume and blood pressure issues
