Job Summary

The Comcast Cloud Team is seeking an OpenStack Platform Engineer to help design, test, optimize and deploy our multi-region private cloud environment. We support thousands of hosts running tens of thousands of virtual machines, so automation skills are highly desired. Bring your expertise in Linux systems engineering, virtualization, networking and troubleshooting along with a desire to solve large scale engineering problems. Security first mentality is a must.

Job Description

The Global Cloud Technologies team provides the digital foundation for our application developers to reach millions of customers across the globe. Within this group the Private Cloud Platform Engineering team builds products that enable on-premise applications to leverage a Cloud model while minimizing cost to the business and ensuring we meet our security and compliance goals. We work to optimize the availability, performance, capacity utilization and developer experienceof ourplatforms. We partner with our Architecture team on design, enable our SRE team to operate the platform, and collaborate with our Portal team to enable tenants to consume our services.

CoreDuties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Architecture on designing new features and capabilities for our OpenStack product
  • Research software,hardware,and other technologies in support of advancing our private cloud portfolio
  • Optimize the cost, availability, performance, and developer experience of our OpenStack product.
  • Validate new OpenStack releases through a combination of automated functional and performance testing.
  • Integrate evolving security and compliance requirements into new OpenStack product releases.
  • Continue to evolve and enhance our existing deployment automation capabilities.
  • Support SRE team forL3escalations

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced Linux knowledge and hands on experience
  • Expertise in Engineering processes: deliver a product that meets requirements from a specification, test and validate the product, optimize configuration, and enable production deployment
  • Systems thinking: the ability to understand and address complex problems by understanding relationships within an interconnected system rather than just its individual parts
  • Data-driven decision making: the capability to define metrics for success and failure, to design systems and processes to test and gather relevant data needed to make a decision, and the willingness to let data guide decision making rather than relying on existing biases
  • Experience with OpenStack deployments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiencywith PythonorGoLang, including ability to write basic scripts/software
  • Experience writing Ansible playbooks
  • Prior experience and knowledge of Git and peer-review workflow
  • Experience with CI/CD tools
  • Knowledge of testing tools and techniques
  • Experience with managingservers, data centers,networking,and security
  • Prior experience withCephstorage.
  • Experience with component integration using APIs and SDKs
  • Prior contributions to open-source software
  • Past software engineering projects you can show - e.g.GitHub portfolio
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to actively participatein team meetings, providingaccurateand complete status updates
  • Experience and enthusiasm for mentoring colleagues
  • AI and MML experience are a plus

Compensation

This job can be performed in Virginia, and Denver Campus with a Pay Range of $113,886.55 - $187,099.34Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
