Job description

Position SummaryThe Coax Splicer is responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, activation, and maintenance of coaxial cable systems supporting telecommunications networks. This position performs aerial and underground coax splicing, network troubleshooting, signal balancing, and quality assurance while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications and company standards.The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coax) networks, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform coaxial cable splicing, activation, maintenance, and repair for aerial and underground telecommunications networks.Prepare, splice, terminate, and test hardline and coaxial cables.Install and maintain connectors, taps, splitters, amplifiers, nodes, and associated network equipment.Read and interpret network prints, maps, work orders, and construction drawings.Troubleshoot network outages, signal degradation, ingress, egress, and service interruptions.Perform signal balancing and sweep testing to ensure optimal network performance.Utilize RF testing equipment, signal level meters, leakage detectors, TDRs, and other diagnostic tools.Verify all work meets customer specifications and industry quality standards.Document completed work, test results, materials used, and field changes accurately.Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, construction crews, and customers regarding project status.Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe working condition.Follow all OSHA, customer, and company safety policies and procedures.Participate in emergency restoration efforts and after-hours callouts as needed.Travel to various project locations as required.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.2+ years of coax splicing experience preferred.Experience working within CATV, broadband, or telecommunications networks.Knowledge of HFC architecture and coax distribution systems.Ability to read construction prints and network schematics.Experience operating RF testing and signal analysis equipment.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.Preferred QualificationsSCTE certifications.Bucket truck experience.CDL or ability to obtain one.Experience with Comcast, Charter, Lumen, Ziply, Astound, or other broadband providers.Experience with node segmentation, balancing, and network activation.Physical RequirementsAbility to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.Ability to climb ladders, poles, and work in aerial environments.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to kneel, bend, crawl, and work in confined spaces.Ability to distinguish wire colors.Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and on-call schedules when required.Why Cannon?At Cannon, we're more than a construction company-we're building the infrastructure that connects communities.
