Position: Teacher, Reading Specialist

Salary Schedule/Base Annual Rate (Subject to Change):ย Certified Salary Schedule/$54,000. Additional credit for related years of service and education.

Work Calendar: 10 months, 200 days

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

FLSA Status: Exempt

Benefits: Eligible for benefits the first of the month following the new hire date

About the Role

While under the direct supervision of the Principal, the Teacher will provide sound andย consistent instruction to students, modifying curriculum as needed, to support academic growth thatย enables each student to reach their full potential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESย include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supports the Mission, Vision, and goals of J.O. Combs Unified School District
  2. Promotes and follows the adopted school district philosophy, policies, regulations, andย administrative procedures
  3. Facilitates professional learning for staff around MOWR and literacy requirements
  4. Tracks data of progress related to MOWR and informs families of student progress
  5. Works with small groups of students to provide an intensive reading intervention
  6. Facilitates literacy nights for families and the community
  7. Serves as the Dyslexia designee for the campus
  8. Creates a weekly written lesson plan describing daily learning experiences that is correlated withย the objectives in the curriculum guide and/or course outline
  9. Maintains the physical environment of the classroom for organization and maximum instructional
  10. Communicates objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner using clear and precise
  11. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students withย varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs
  12. Implements a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives
  13. Uses multiple assessment methods to monitor and assess student progress to adjust instructionย and provide feedback on a regular basis to students and their parents.
  14. Develops and implements reasonable classroom rules of behavior and procedure in a fair and just manner
  15. Supports and participates in the MTSS process
  16. Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific student needs and seeks assistance of district
  17. Effectively collaborates with department and grade level teachers
  18. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and otherย professionals on a regular basis to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program
  19. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learningย atmosphere in the classroom
  20. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program
  21. Participates in Professional Learning Communities
  22. Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community members
  23. Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals
  24. Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required
  25. May be required to participate in student meetings which occur beyond the staff's work hours
  26. Participates in professional development
  27. Participates in curriculum review and design
  28. Other duties as assigned
